Global, I don't disagree on the opportunity question you raise but where is the tipping point? We spend as much in this country per capita on education as other "developed" countries yet our educational system struggles. Is that really discrimination or a poorly managed beauracratic system that needs a new model?

And I ask this as someone who lives in New Orleans where the public school system is so poor that it was taken over by the state. And I don't mean financially poor. And I freely admit to being in a financial position to send my kids to private school, an opportunity many in this city don't have. But at what point do we finally realize that simply throwing more money at the problem is not the answer? After Katrina many schools switched to the charter model and the results have been good. Unfortunately we have lost generations, at least here in New Orleans, so it will take time see results...
