Some of the earlier "adventures" had accidents that certainly felt unscripted; the later episodes (last few seasons) were more apparently scripted as an attempt to recreate the magic from the earlier ones.
Let's put it this way, obviously there was a scripted element to the last TG, but it was MUCH, MUCH more clear this time.

Yeah true, I figure I'll give it time. There's a learning curve to this sort of thing. I did read that The Grand Tour will focus more on road trips and challenges rather than individual car reviews which was my favorite part of TG. TG will continue to have those, even though I feel like they won't come close to the original crew in their witty car reviews that even non-car people can understand and like, but still.
I feel like those who are hating would've blindly disliked the show regardless of what they did. Even if they were able to create an exact carbon copy of the original, they'd complain that they're just doing the same old shit and not trying anything new.
