When talking about BMW and motor racing, mentioning the name Schnitzer is a must: for more than 50 years, now, Schnitzer have been racing with and for BMW and in these five decades, they won races and titles galore. So, it goes without saying that Schnitzer also have been involved since BMW made their works comeback in DTM.

Two names are standing for the success of BMW Team Schnitzer: Schnitzer and Lamm. Back in 1963, the brothers Josef and Herbert Schnitzer bought a car that had been damaged in an accident to use it in motor racing. Motorsport-Team Schnitzer was born. Just a few years later, the half-brothers of the Schnitzers, Karl “ called Charly “ and Dieter Lamm joined the team. Together, the quartet helped the team to become more and more successful. Since Josef Schnitzer (1978) and Dieter Lamm (2014) passed away, Herbert Schnitzer and Charly Lamm are the men at the helm of the squad.

The team's DTM history dates back to the 1980s and 1990s. And even in the early years of the series that is the most successful international touring-car series, today, the squad around Charly Lamm represented the BMW colours – and celebrated numerous successes while doing so by securing 17 race wins and 8 pole positions as well as setting 17 fastest race laps. But in the debut season, in 1989, they made for an even bigger triumph, with Italian Roberto Ravaglia winning the DTM Driver's Championship for the Schnitzer squad.

20 years after their last DTM win so far, secured on 11th October, 1992 at Hockenheim, BMW Team Schnitzer made for a true sensation: in the comeback season, 2012, Bruno Spengler won the drivers championship and as the icing on the cake, Charly Lamms team also prevailed in the team championship.

Altogether, Schnitzer won 17 championships with BMW, in the past 50 years “ such as the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, three European Touring Car Championship titles and championships in Germany, the UK, Italy, Japan and South-East Asia.

In 2015, Martin Tomczyk and Antonio Felix da Costa will contest the DTM season for BMW Team Schnitzer.
