I have a 2015 428i as well and haven't tried it yet but going to shortly and report.
My service rep doesn't know what it is and we tested the iPhone 6s and it's working (ERGH!!!!).
Any ideas or help; other than switching phones would be great.

Did you update the BT firmware and software? It's a customer job; files are located on the BMW Global and BMW Regional Websites. Takes one empty USB and 10mins Max.
