Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but the R may as well stand for ridiculous, as in ridiculously expensive for even routine maintenance. Last I looked into it tires needed replacing every 5k miles and were not cheap, a timing belt job was like $4k, etc.
For US roads you're fine with an S4. You'll end up paying a lot more for performance that you can't fully enjoy.
