That pretty much existed up until last year as the Itlalian V8 Superstars series. E92 M3's vs C63 Saloons vs RS5's. Roberto Ravaglia ran a team in it.
Fun to watch, but the simple fact is any series has to balance performance or it becomes utterly pointless. V8 Superstars struggled to BOP the RS5, they gave it insane restrictions to counter it's Quattro system but it still won. The BMW's got too old, and the Mercs couldn't be caught in a straight line.
Unfortunately the series went into administration.
Part of the problem with DTM is the cars are quite fragile, they're very quick and so evenly matched that it's hard to pass without just waiting for the guy in fronts tyres to go off.
Anyhow, I witnessed both Saturday and Sundays races live from Zandvoort
Pretty safe to say I was happy with the results
