That was indeed my experience when I test drove the B3 BT about 18 months ago. I've also owned an E46 B3 and it was a great car, fabulous engine and tight suspension without being uncomfortable.

The only reason I currently do not drive an Alpina is that the B3 BT is not available with manual transmission and active steering.
