We have a 15 month old pitbull and she's crate trained; however, she's never in there for extended periods of time. She loves her crate and even self crates at times. My wife and I work full time so we send her to daycare or have the sitter over for multiple walks a day. It gets pricey but it's worth it to us as we have zero appetite for leaving her in the crate all day.
