How old is your computer? Definitely part of the strategy of MS is to continue improving the OS, which is taxing to older computers. They are not going to support Windows 7 much longer.
Maybe it is time to upgrade, which is what I did with my home laptop. At work, they still use Windows 7, but are phasing in Windows 10 as new equipment comes on stream. My Gigabyte P35 v6 from Amazon is amazingly faster than my old Dell XPS 1530.
