Exactly as a hiring manager in the IT field whenever I get a LinkedIn response it's from some cold calling recruiter who does not even know what I support or what my group does. IMO you are much better off dealing with someone who has a true presence in an industry rather than someone trying to fill slots with anything. My personal LinkedIn profile is at least 10 years old and one of my skills on it is DOS 3.0 and people still email me. They don't even read it or they would run from it.
