No. It is a common error. The brain perceives no movement in the rearward direction. The throttle is engaged at a higher than normal speed to compensate for the brain's failure to detect movement in the intended direction. The mistaken cues are not all visual.

By the time the brain figures out what is happening it's too late.

This is one reason you see this four foot steel poles in front of convenience stores.
