BMW recently revealed the 2013 7 Series LCI / facelift refresh model [official thread]. Along with the newly updated looks and technology (the most important of which is the Navigation Pro system), the US is also set to receive a diesel 7 Series model sometime next year, according to C&D.

It will be powered by the same 3.0 liter diesel inline 6-cylinder engine from the X5 xDrive35d. Actual output for the 7 Series application isn't yet known, but the standard configuration of this engine currently produces 265hp and 425 lb-ft torque, with an available high output version outputting 308hp / 465 lb-ft torque.

It should be badged as either the 735d or 740d.

This is a good sign for 3 Series and 5 Series fans hoping for a diesel model, which, if offered in the US with the same engine as next year's 7 series and X5 xDrive35d, would come in the form of the 335d and 535d. When we last asked BMWNA about a possible F30 diesel for the U.S., their response was "our last outgoing model [e90] was very successful with the diesel so we’re thinking about it."
