There used to be such a huge gap between the way BMWs drove and the way their competition did. During those good days, it was a no brainer for enthusiasts to tolerate BMW's questionable reliability and high maintenance costs because the driving dynamics were so sublime. Nowadays, drive almost any non-M BMW side-by-side with its competitors and they all feel nearly the same. Others have caught up or even surpassed BMW in the interior department, and some others are more reliable too. The incentive to choose a BMW over the competition has greatly diminished in my opinion.
