Transfer Gearbox Problem

Transfer gearbox just replaced due to a high pitch wind-up and wind-down whirling noise upon acceleration and deceleration at 10 mph. Now hearing the same sound, albeit less pronounced / loud, at 55 mph.

Had the car back for 3 days, but went on a road test with the shop foreman today, who hears the noise, but states it may be normal or a radial noise. Told him it’s not normal, as the car didn’t do same previously and because the noise changed after gearbox replacement, also that I had the noise for about one year over the course of which I went through many tires. He wants to road test another similar vehicle and get back to me.

A helpful forum member believes the dealer may not have replaced the gearbox and simply drained it and that it may be a torque converter. Any additional thoughts on what it may be and how to handle the dealer if they come back stating it’s normal.

Extended warranty paid dealer $5k for the work.

Thanks.
