I think if you closely there is a very slight difference between the 7 Series M Sport wheels and the X6 M wheel.
The X6 M (red body) is completely flat on the machined face, whereas the 7 wheel is more faceted.
I think the chrome make the car look bulbous.
But I have a question: How many 7 Series M Sport buyers would take the car down the track - especially with a diesel engine, which is geared for economy and not max performance. I'm guessing not many. Going down the freeway today, I saw a nice 750Li slightly ahead of me so I trailed it awhile just to watch it. It glided nice and smooth. So putting myself in the BMW design engineer mindset: We'll add a M Sport option to firm up the suspension a little, but not much because if these buyers wanted that they could buy a M5 or M6. IMHO, the M Sport option is for buyers that can afford it, but don't necessarily crave performance. It's more of an afterthought rather than a central premise - chrome would be more important. Just my 2 cents.
