The problem with the MSI 1080Ti Armor is the stock cooling is a joke. Before I did the liquid setup it would easily hit ~85-90* on stock clocks. Which then caused the card to automatically underclock itself, but even then it still ran hot. You can read all the reviews on newegg about this. Lots of us posted on the MSI forum about this too, but they locked the threads....
This was the catalyst of getting a new case and cooling setup

Now I remember. It was the stock factory fan maxing out at like 2800rpm or something real low.
My gaming x 1080 does pretty well with a stock fan but you are making me think to go the liquid route. Are you running a Corsair cooler?
