Not discontinued at all. They still produce long and short wheelbase variants of the car (hence the G11 / G12 model designations). I think the confusion stems from the fact that they decided to only import the long wheelbase (G12) version to the USA
and as a result of only selling one model here, dropped the "L" designation from the name. So here in the USA, the long wheelbase (G12) models are merely 740i / 750i.
