BMW 2009 F01 7 Series Interior dashboard/center console fully revealed
from Auto Bild. This interior has been verified to be the new F01 7-series interior. It's a preproduction / mock-up using termporary materials, but the design is final. The gear shift lever has moved back to the center console and there are more buttons on the steering wheel, as initial spypics indicated.

The Nav screen is smaller? I like the tilt of the dashboard. Reminds me of the Infiniti M45's.

I hate that gear shifter.
Reminds me of a over-sized flight simulator joy-stick.

nice, no more Idrive hump. good job, obviously its too early to judge on this pic on anything other then layout. You can tell its poorly put together, just functional. I like that joystick very much, wish I could have it for my steptronic retrofitted.

CA seems standard, no hole for the key. Looks like an in dash changer, the gages look stunning. I love it. (and I see them every day...

I think the key slot is behind steering wheel in the pic. Its just to risky to run CA only without a key slot (IMHO). If the system failed or they key died (you wouldn't have a key slot to charge it) you'd have one pissed off owner.

The joystick for the sport auto transmission in the 535/550 (available with sport package) is much better than the standard steptronic shifter. They should consider going to the sport auto shifter as standard. I love mine.

This is just a huge dissapointment in my eyes. I was expecting some big changes, maybe even some hints from the CS interior, but no. More of the same. Audi's S5 kills this interior.

Forget the fact the materials are pre-production. The ACTUAL design is dissapointing. It looks as if it's just been brought up to the level of the current 3/5/X5/X6 level. If this was the CURRENT interior of course I'd be happy, but I thought the CS was supposed to mark the start of a new design language for BMW? That is a stunning concept. BMW need to implement its design language into ALL future models. Just look at that CS interior:

The joystick is the same, the paddles are the only thing different. All 5, X5, X6 have the joystick.

The CS interior is more-or-less a loose guideline of what could be. It's a shame the F01 doesn't follow it, or even take any hints from it whatsoever.
The CS hinted at a driver-oriented interior that flowed and used creases and overlaying to supplement housing for the AC vents and all the other things you find in interiors. The steering wheel is the only thing that even vaguely resembles the CS interior, and even then it looks abysmal with its monochromatic design. I think it's a step back compared to the steering wheels implemented into current generation Bimmers. This isn't an exterior design that one can grow to like, or even love, over time. This is an interior. It has to impress you on the first go. This doesn't come close to impressive at all. To be honest I'm dissapointed in the current 7's interior. The trim looks cheap, but the overall design is okay.

I think this could be very sleek with better materials, which the article says the new 7 will have. Keep in mind guys that the next generation 7 is going to be an evolution, not revolution of the current one.
BMW's design strategy goes as follows: one generation is a revolution, the next is an evolution, and then another revolution. This interior is taking hints from the CS for sure. it twists towards the driver, it is much simpler and flowing compared to the current 7, and with better materials it will definitely look ultra-sleek. I'm not saying that I love it. The steering wheel is a joke. The left side according to the spy pics will be dedicated to cruise control--the current simpler set up is much easier to look at and function for sure. Also, BMW can't just throw in all of the CS into the 7. The CS will go into production, whether as an 8 or 9 series is unsure. BMW is saving that special interior and most of the exterior design specifically for that car, and THEN we can expect the design to trickle down into the rest of the line up. This design is by no means ugly. I'm sure once the final materials are implemented and the set up looks less X5ish (there would ideally be a lot more leather, better looking wood etc...) many of your opinions will change. BMW knows they messed up with the last generation 7 when they first introduced it, they would be out of their mind to not pay extra careful attention to this one.
