+27 MPG....w/ an N63
So many threads on how "bad" the N63 engine is....
Well, here is a bit of sunshine....just did my 60K mile service: 1. Replaced the oil (0W-30) 2. Engine Air filters 3. BMW Spark plugs 4. Cleaned the MAF's 5. Replaced two of the intake seals at the throttle body 6. Cleaned the throttle body 7. Replaced the PVC hose assembly ....on my 2018 G12 N63, and this engine is awesome. Ran around SoCal over the last week +800 miles and I'm averaging +27 MPG, 95% highway, 5% city, with plenty of hills and valleys (so not just tooling around at 55MPH on a level highway) and absolutely no vibration in the steering wheel...and this thing still pulls like a catapult. ....Just saying. If you want the N63 to last, I would highly advise running Redline 5W50. I have had many cars with N63 variants (2011 F10 550, 2015 F10 M5, 2019 G12 750) and all ran Redline 5w50. I still have the F10 550 and it has 164k miles.

This is awesome.
The MPG with the B7 is the only reason that would keep me away in the future from the M760 G12. I don't want the car to cost me $5 gas each time I go to pick up groceries a few miles away. B7 V8 engine probably makes more sense despite the fun and exclusivity of the V12 in the M760. |

I've been pleasantly surprised by the relative efficiency I'm getting out the N63 in my 750, but I know it's propped up by the 60 mile of highway on my commute to work. |

Just because I love numbers, I put some numbers to it: That X7 is rated at 15MPG (which is 6.67gal/100mi) on the EPA's City test cycle...If you're averaging 17MPG (5.88gal/100mi) based on your driving style and your own "city cycle" route of your commute, you're 11.8% (on gal/100mi basis) more efficient that EPA rating projected. Again, assuming all that changes is the vehicle you're driving, apply that same logic to the EPA's published city data for the B7 and M760 for the same model year, I estimate you'd average about 19MPG with the B7 and about 15 with the M760. On a percentage basis, it's a significant difference but both would still be labeled as "poor." My initial guess of both being in the teens holds water. I don't know where you're located, but I'm in Ohio and the average cost of premium today is $3.989/gal. For comparison's sake that makes the cost of that 15 mile commute: $3.52 in the X7, $3.11 in the B7, and $4.06 in the M760. |

If am worried about gas, I can just keep driving my Model S, lol, but that is not a factor when buying cars at this price point. |

It can be - if you are a tool like me who loves engineering and efficiency. My 740dX long term average is 44mpg or 5.3l/100km. I could do better.

I sold my Mbenz S-class with 158K MSRP a couple months ago, and that's the only reason am looking for another family-large-luxury sedan now. M760 is just the right replacement. Otherwise I have 2 SUVs and an awesome EV sedan and a bonus Honda car at home. So I am covered as for the "needs", and am just "hunting" for an exclusive car like the M760 for the fun aspect to tickle my OCD. |
