750i vs. 750Li

Just Curious what you guys think is better and why. Or the reason you bought the model you did.

Shorter, Lighter, and better performing or longer with more rear seat space?
Which one looks better to you from the outside?

Looks wise, I think they are pretty much the same (at least to me there is not much of a difference between either).

I picked the 750i over the 750Li for a couple of reasons:

1) Lighter and hence a bit faster

2) Easier to handle. Way smaller turning circle especially with the Integral Active Steering system. The turning radius is something you have to see/experience for yourself to believe it. Simply put its amazing for such a big car!

3) I have two small kids and the room for the back seats is very generous in the 750i. Also, since I got the rear entertainment system for them (dual 9.2" screens and iDrive controller), they can adjust the screens if necessary during a drive without having to unbuckle themselves!

Now if I were to drive other people around a lot, I might consider the the Long wheelbase version and who knows, if BMW is going to release a 760Li xDrive version, I might go and buy that one

Yea awd would help for putting down the power of the V12. I always wondered why the S600 and S65 never had AWD. It's a luxury sedan, the little offset in handling wouldn't be apparent in a s-class. But being able to put down 600+hp would be a big plus.

Is the turning radius that much different between an i and Li, assuming both have sport pack?

I gave the L version a miss as UK roads aren't particularly generous on the space front and it's a challenge in some areas to gt the F01 around some places as it is.

F01 is easier to park and handle, and it is supposed to be driven by its owner. What's the point of driving a long version, when everyone around thinks that it is not your car?

That's not an issue in the U.S. at least. 90% of the 7's I see here are LI's. I guess American's just think Bigger is Better. Most people here drive their cars themselves. Very few actually use a 7 to be driven around in. That's more common with Rolls, Maybach, and limos.

Things are different in Europe. It is considered extremely vulgar to drive a long version without a chauffeure. (Even in Russia )

lol, you got it wrong buddy, most of those with Li version bought them used after those big corp. in area like NY and California done with their lease. If you ever search for a used 7, most "i" are from original owners while Li went through as many as 4 owners.

haha well I'm not 100% sure. I know a lot of my friends parents buy the long versions right when they come out and everyone in my subdivision has long ones within a year of the car coming out. The short wheelbase models aren't that common here. S-classes are extremely common here. And those only come in one length. I live in Naperville, IL. Not anywhere near NY and Cali. All the dealers around here stock mostly longer wheelbase cars. That makes sense. If people cross shop the S550, and then they see the small back seats of the 750i, they want the li back seat so its an equal comparison. Most people here have kids to drive around so it would make sense. If you look at the 60+ crowd where the kids are out of the house already, they wouldn't need a back seat so they would be more apt to just go for a short wheelbase model. The only exception I see being the Lexus LS. Most of those are the short wheelbase. I'm just saying what I see people buying around me.

i picked the f01 for most of the reasons that X drive did

slightly more performance, better sport pkg tires too (pirelli run flats), better overall shape, small kids, plenty of room in the rear for them, etc

I also drive by myself 80 percent of the time - no need to drive a limo or feel like a chauffer

Congrats on your new car. Post some pictures if you have the time.

I don't hear any noises from my seat belts...

Are you referring to the seat belt pre-tension function ?

I have driven both the long and short versions. I got the Li because I like the looks. The rear doors are more complimentary to the overall look of the car. Rear seat passengers drool! I think it's a more elegant look. As for performance, the difference is measured in micro-points. Wearing a blindfold, I don't think I could really differentiate. I have never had a problem parking long cars, though I admit, I live in the US and parking (to say nothing of even finding a parking spot) is a helluva lot easier in San Francisco than in Europe.

see advocado i feel the total opposite, i dont like the way the Li looks. Plus I'm 17 and my little sister is 16 but shes going to boarding school next year. so itll usually just be my mom driving it. and then prob my mom and dad when they go out. so theres really no need for the Li. plus no one gets the i and I like being the only one who has it

750Li

I chose the 750Li
Having just returned from the WELT (ED Pickup) - I learned that this 7 Li was designed diff from previous 7's Li version.
Before, they just added a slab of metal near the rear to create the extra space. This new model (F02) was built from the ground up with the extra space in mind so the the extra space is evenly distributed thru-ought the vehicle to eliminate the "weirdly stretched, non sporty" look the previous model had.

This is why if you see them side by side, you cant hardly tell the difference until you get inside the rear seat only.

Cost is only 5k more which makes this a no brainer (for me).
I added rear reclining seats, entertainment, heating, massaging and AC in the rear seats, so friends & family really enjoy the ride.
Either way guys - there is no wrong choice L or Li - Both are AWESOME!
We need to make sure we enjoy each others differences without making it confrontational - (same thing with Politics )

Now I wait for redelivery
ps.. I read someone here lives in Naperville too? I guess you will see these wheels around town soon I live in Naperville too!
Below are my pics from my trip - This was in my stop in Austria.
Attached Images
