Decision Help: Long or Short Wheelbase?

I'm thinking of trading up to the LCI 750. I'm stuck with a decision of Long or Short Wheelbase. For those who has an i or Li, what thought processes help you made the final decision?

Big thanks in advance!

It was extremely simple:
- it is only 1 or 2 (seldom) people in the car, don't care about the rear seats at all
- one look at the rear seats and I was like - there is more than enough space for anyone here. Actually more than necessary. Why would anyone go the long wheel base?
- I like driving, why putting up with a longer wheel base and associated handling differences given the two points above

Pretty much this.

I bought the Li for my wife to give extra room for the three kids in car seats. Don't have to worry about them kicking the backs of the seats. If you don't routinely cart people around, the i is just fine

It's hard to distinguish a 7 short wheel base from a 5 series.

So, if you don't want the long wheel base, then save weight, money, and to some extent performance and go with a 550.

Otherwise, get a long wheel base seven. You get a lot more room.

So, save the money or spend it. Don't go middle of the road with a SWB 7.

i also agree on going with the long wheel base. It gives the car a certain presence that imo lacks with the standard wheel base.

depends on what you plan on using the car for If you carry people around, then get the Li or else get the short wheelbase. Both are more than adequate rear leg room, but the LI is a bit more luxurious with the extra space.

the new LCI looks fantastik.

had both, now with the 750i. much better, the li is not even worth it at all unless your some huge ceo getting driven around in all day, so go with the li if you fit that description

My Mom had the long wheel base. Beautiful car. She complained it was hard to park. dad loved sitting in the back and smoking his cigars though! If the rear seats are going to be used at all, with car seats or retired grandpas with cigars, go long. If not go short. 7 series sport SWB is a slick car.

Good point. A 7er is meant to be a LWB.

My wife took one look at the back seat of the 'i' and reminded me that we have two 6'+ sons. (Although they are both away at school). That made the decision for me.... 2013 750Li.
Driven it 2000 mile so far and LOVE it.
No difference in rated operating spec's
Don't remember the cost diff.
Everyone we take out to dinner appreciates it.
Having been driving SUV's for the past 20 years I haven't missed the room yet. I kind of agree with previous tho. If I wasn't thinking I would be carting people around I would have probably bought the 550.

I appreciate everyone's input. I pulled a trigger on a 2012 750Li Graphite Black Met - Saddle and Black Nappa Leather, lots of goodies. I'm extremely happy with the purchase.

Compared to my old F10 535i, it is wider and significantly longer. When it's on the road, I don't even realize I'm driving a big 4,600lb vehicle. I no longer get the avg 27mpg, but it was given with the bigger engine. Power delivery is smooth, almost too easy to do 100mph+ when you're not paying attention.

The fit and finish of the 7 is superior to anything I've ever owned. Everything is top notch. Photos and review coming soon...

Grats! And I have to say if you never have people in the back why would need such a big car. In fact I don't think I've actually seen a 7 series one the road with passengers in the back lol. And I see those cars everyday.

Thanks. To your point, most Heavy Duty diesel powered pickup trucks I've seen on the road aren't hauling anything either.

... so, waiting patiently for a longer review and pictures. I have ordered the same interior colors without the sport package, and couldn't find any at the local dealers with that interior. So I'd appreciate plenty of detailed interior pictures.

thank you in advance...

I got the SWB because I didn't need the space and I rarely have people in the back sit.

Saddle and Black Leather Leather + Fine Line High Gloss Wood trim are great combinations. Click on the link below, you can view the interior 360 degrees. If you're ordering the 2013, it should come with the mSport package for FREE. I would also add LED lighting if I were you. My 2012 doesn't have the mSport, but will add the bumpers later.

I got cold weather, executive, driver assistance, and luxury rear seating packages. I will post a comprehensive review with photos soon. Waiting for the spring blossom for a nicer photo shoot.

By the way, I wear my Ray Ban Polarized sunglasses 100% of the time when it's sunny out. You can't see the HUD with Polarized sunglasses.

My wife is usually my DD. I like ridding in the back seat on the way home from a night out nowadays.

I do like the SWB as well. I couldn't find a good deal on one at the time. It sucks a bit trying to find packing and the ass sticks out when you park the LWB. Once I lower it, I can't get close to the parking stopper so it will stick out even further. The F02 is longer than my E70 X5. But I'm starting to love the LWB, couldn't see me owning a SWB 7 anymore. It has tons of presence and does turn heads driving around town.
