2024 BMW i7 e50 Seat malfunction

Greetings all!

( Hopefully this is a “one off”).

Just bought a i7 e50 this week.

Well its already in service, with 21 miles on it..

-Had it at home for 36 hrs before i recieved front drivers seat malfunction.

**( most of the 36hrs was spent trying to get t-mobile on the esim, **no success**).

-Recieved error also states “perform” seat calibration. ( also wouldnt let the tv drop down, even when there was clearance). The seat controller worked and moved the seat incremently.

After a few minutes..

-The seat error went away and then showed “driver restraint system malfunction”.

-Took it to straight to BMW with 21 miles on it yesterday where its still there..

Will keep everyone posted… maybe someone has experienced this..

What a bummer when you’re so excited to play with your new toy. I’m sure they’ll fix it easily and you’ll be back discovering all the new amazing features. Don’t let a little bug get in your way of loving this car. It’s truly amazing in every way.

What issue are you experiencing with the ESIM?

First off, I'm very sorry to hear of your troubles. Secondly, I thought I was the only one on this forum with an i7 eDrive50, so hello Brother! On my eDrive50 after a month and nearly 1,000 miles (most via an SF to Santa Barbara trip), I'm not experiencing that problem myself. There's SO much technology I almost expect something to go wrong. However, I'm sure once your seat problem is corrected, it won't reoccur. As for your eSim problem (I didn't opt for the theater option nor care to use an eSim), I've read PLENTY of stories here on this forum about connection problems, so you are certainly not alone there. Otherwise, still enjoy your car! - Mike

I have the seat calibration/driver restraint error as well and this is the second time I’ve had it in the year of owning the car.

The Manual says to recalibrate the seat and I’ve tried that many times but that does not fix the issue, so I’m bringing it into the dealer this week.

Esim issues:

- I open BMW app>select activate e-sim>app prompts “select carrier”>i select carrier and log in t-mobile.

- T-mobile prompts me to activate magenta drive> i select> once selected im either get error code:5001> or a message saying i have too many lines.

- i dont have too many lines.

- t-mobile has no idea how to fix, BMW genius was pretty much lost as well.

I have seat calibration error too. And driver restraint. Calibrating per the manual did not work. I’m away and dealer here gave me Jan 10 spot with loaner.

You can find the seat calibration in the manual. Move seat all the way up until it stops. Then move bit again. Then move it back where you want it. This supposed to clear the restraint error too. But my front seat moves only about 4 inches at a time so it has refused to calibrate. Worth trying even ifcutcdidntceork for me.

Sorry for the typos. Move the seat “back”. And “worth a shot even if it didn’t work for me”

Happy New Year to all.

Since the calibration error happened twice, I found that when you move the seat forward To do the calibration, and it only moves a few inches, that is a sign that the calibration will not work

Car went into shop today for seat/driver restraint malfunction. I am 1000 miles from home, in Florida. Technician this afternoon said it is defective seat "end stop" and they are replacing both driver and passenger side. Sent a walkaround video with diagnosis and no other problems detected. 2 days for parts to arrive, gave me an X3 loaner (I did not buy car from dealer so I am okay with that; we have an X3 at home).

Car went in Wednesday morning and was ready Thursday late. Issue is resolved. Not sure exactly what they did -- if it was the end stops or just software. Supposed to get the paperwork Monday and will update.

Edit: It required a software reset and no parts for this to be fixed.
