High-Performance Lexus LS F Prototype Spotted in Europe?

A mystery Lexus LS prototype has been spotted in Southern Europe sporting a modified front grille and bumper — from Auto Evolution:

The bumper is highly unusual, as it has the F SPORT mesh grille with additional cutouts but the side intakes are unlike either F SPORT or standard models. The extra airflow to the end could indicate a new powertrain — perhaps even the oft-rumored twin-turbo V8.

Front wheel gap is much higher than any previously seen fifth-generation LS, perhaps suggesting all-wheel drive. The hybrid badge has also been taped up.

From the rear, we can see an added spoiler and no exhausts –unsurprising given the hybrid badges. However, the spy photographers made a special point of mentioning that the exhaust was extremely loud, making it quite possible that the hybrid badges are subterfuge.

It would be strange for Lexus to be working on a high-performance LS F before building a LC F coupe, but given the state of this prototype’s camouflage, an LC F could be hiding in plain sight.

What do you think? LS F? Additional LS F SPORT testing? Could the sixth-generation LS be getting a V8 option? Check out all the spy shots at Auto Evolution and let us know in the comments.

I gotta agree with you on the interior comment. Absolutely inviting and upscale are the 2 words that come to mind!

2018 Lexus LS On Sale In February, Priced From $75,000

Quote:
Even though Lexus unveiled their fifth-generation LS flagship all the way back in January, we've definitely had to wait a while to get any sort of first impressions for it, let alone pricing and specs.

Based on the automaker's premium rear-wheel drive platform, the new LS is considerably larger than its predecessor, while logging around less weight and plenty more on-board tech and safety features.

Whether you go for the LS 500 (415 HP) or the LS 500h version (354 HP hybrid), you'll be driving a car that's capable of accelerating to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 5.5 seconds. The LS 500h needs 5.4 seconds to be precise, while the LS 500 in RWD configuration will manage 4.5 seconds.

If you want your luxury Japanese saloon to look like speed is constantly on its mind, the F Sport package is definitely the way to go. Not only does it provide handling enhancements, you also get exclusive 20" alloys, larger front and rear brakes plus other chassis enhancements.

If you've got your eyes on the petrol-powered model and not the hybrid, you can also add the Performance Package on top of the F Sport pack, which in turn will land you Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), Active Rear Steering and Active Stabilizer.

In terms of safety, the all-new Lexus LS was designed better handle the four main causes of traffic fatalities: accidents related to pedestrians, vehicle departures from roads, intersections and rear-end collisions.

"The LS is designed to be the top runner in advanced safety technologies," said Lexus LS chief engineer Toshio Asahi. The new LS basically combines two advanced safety systems - the Lexus Safety System+ and Lexus Safety System+ A (Advanced). On the former, you get features such as Front PCS with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Intelligent High Beam, Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Alert.

With the Advanced package, you get all of the above plus Pedestrian Alert, Active Steering Assist, Front Lateral Side PCS, Lane Trace Assist, Front Cross-Traffic Alert and Road Sign Assist.

As for connectivity, the complimentary Lexus Enform App Suite 2.0 app will allow users access to their favorite mobile applications using the vehicle's center console display - apps such as NPR One, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Slacker and Yelp. Thanks to the LS' 4G LTE wi-fi, up to five devices can be connected. Also on offer is a 4 GB complimentary trail.

Speaking of complimentary, Lexus Enform Safety Connect is available for the first 10 years. Here, you get a functional Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification and Stolen Vehicle Notification. It's a 24/7/365 service.

With a base price of $75,000 in the U.S., the all-new Lexus LS is cheaper to purchase than rivals such as the BMW 7-Series ($83,100) or the Mercedes-Benz S-Class ($89,900).

I don?t know. The 6GT is at least kinda clean, even if it?s a goofy overall shape. The current Lexus design ethos seems to be to torture every square inch into a turbulent mess.

Sometimes clean lines are good. There?s just so, so, so much going on with the LS. I think it was Cumberford who said the best designs were those that when the designers were done, they then removed two more design details. Lexus clearly adds two hundred and ninety six to what should be the finished design.

Same thing with Honda. I liked the way the Civic Si drove. My first car was a CRX Si. But man, there are panels on top of panels on top of the original panel. So much could be simplified and it would be a thousand times better for it.

Amusingly, the LC500 is a spare, clean and nuanced design (aside from the tragic grille).

2019 Lexus LS Launches In The U.S. Priced Cheaper Than Old Model

Quote:
Lexus is launching the new LS luxury sedan in the US market with an entry price that’s actually cheaper than its predecessor.

The new Lexus LS starts from $75,995, including a $995 destination and handling fee, making it $3,820 cheaper than the outgoing long-wheelbase model. The hybrid LS 500h has a starting price of $80,505.

The launch of the company’s new flagship sedan will be accompanied by a new commercial during the 2018 Super Bowl next month.

“The 2018 LS is one of the most important launches in our brand’s history, so it makes sense for us to use a stage like the Super Bowl to showcase it to our customers. The LS not only offers unsurpassed performance, style and luxury, its competitive pricing makes it a great value as well,” said Lexus Group Vice President and Division General Manager, Jeff Bracken.

Based on the company’s latest GA-L platform, the new Lexus LS is offered with an all-new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 416hp and 442lb-ft of torque, 30hp and 75lb-ft more than its naturally aspirated V8 predecessor.

The hybrid LS500h uses the same Multistage Hybrid System that debuted in the LC500h Coupe, combining a 3.5-liter V6 that runs on the Atkinson cycle with two electric motors for a total of 354hp.

Every new Lexus LS model comes loaded with the Safety System+ as standard. This includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Intelligent High Beam headlamps, Lane Departure Alert and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Lane Keep Assist. Customers can opt for the Lexus Safety System+ A that adds Pedestrian Alert, Active Steering Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Road Sign Assist, Lane Departure Alert with road edge detection and the semi-autonomous Lexus CoDrive which combines Lane Trace Assist and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
