I do, but looks like in the non luxury category all the SUVs have underwhelming engines and transmissions. To keep cost down may go for a 3 year old CPO, which should not be more than a fully loaded CRV or RAV4.

Just found out about the new RDX releasing this year, that might be a contended too.

My dad just got rid of a kia sportage and got the honda cr v. Sportage had issues. Hyundai/kia has come a long way but i'd never buy one. The cr v is great. It's spacious and comfortable. One drawback is that its underpowered. But id trade that for reliability.

For me, i like the RX350, MDX, or QX60

Big fan of the Mazda’s. CX5 or CX9. I’d recommend an XC60 or 90, but they seem to be having issues. I’m not really a fan of their modular engines either.

I’m selling my wife’s 2015 Audi SQ5 in March because 3rd kid is due and need more room. Certified till 100k miles if you are interested. PM me and I can text a few pics. That supercharged 3.0 V6 is a great engine.

Is it just the unavailability of wagons in the US that is stopping you from shopping them?

You can get some lightly used 328i wagons at a decent price.

How's the reliability of the Mazdas?

CR-V's are nice but dealers won't budge at all on pricing on them as they're selling like hotcakes.

Margins are much thinner on these bread and butter cars than we're used to with luxury vehicles. Apparently the Toyota Yaris only had a $150 profit margin. That being said, the CR-V sold like hotcakes when it looked like shit. This new generation looks fantastic so they're even that much less motivated to discount. My guess is that if you go in toward the end of the month and they have the car in stock, you could still get a decent deal. I practically stole our RAV4 hybrid and Highlander Limited last year.

In the cuv section its forester xt vs x1 - x1 is objectively better despite the subie having real awd, having owned both as a doggymobile. The rest are trash.

You can get a new x1 for under 30k so they're just as cheap as the jap/korean/us poverty models, assuming you can get a good msrp discount and incentives. Theyre not real bmws but much better than anything else in that price range

Problem with the new Forester XT is, again, that they mated that nice engine to a shit CVT transmission and nixed the manual as an option.

Golf Alltrack. For real. AWD, as much ground clearance and space as compact CUV's (or more) high refinement levels, crisp driving dynamics. Once the 2018 MY hits lots, it will have VW's new 6yr/72,000mi Bumper-Bumper Warranty.

I drove one a few years ago in Stockholm. Really really good car for the $.

CPO allroad should also be on the list.

I got used to the CVT in my 2015 Forester XT (that I bought off a lease return) very quickly and dare I say - I actually enjoy it. It drives very smooth and once you get past the lack of lurchy kickdown to make you feel like you're accelerating quick it's VERY easy to speed without knowing it.

As a former CVT hater I have certainly changed my tune for the type of vehicle this is.

the golf sportwagen is a much better car than the alltrack, but sadly I couldn't persuade my wife to take one instead of an X1

VW are still hurting so they'll probably go for 10% off, at least. Tune it up and it's a solid little cheap sub 20k doggywagon

The new series II Mazda CX-5 is really nice. Easily one of the best looking (inside and outside) of SUV on the market today. Mazdas handle beautifully in their segments.
I think the turbo engine from the CX-9 is being propagated to other models for added zoom-zoom.
