Exclamation 2014 750i and LI Parking Brake Reduced - Parking Brake Limited

I am making an official post about this issue so that if someone searches for it in the future it make have some value. I haven't found anything much on the web the help me...

2014 7 Series Parking Brake Malfunction Issue. It seems to only really be a problem on 2014 models. I have a 2013 with no issues. Both of my 2014's have the yet to be solved issue. This is partially because there doesn't seem to be a TSB about it yet and the part is not in stock in the USA. Issue occurs on my 2014 750i and my brand new 2014 750 LI

The Part # 61 31 9 318 731

This is the parking brake button and parking hold button assembly.
Not always, but more often than not, we get this message on the iDrive display: Parking Brake Reduced. Contact Service Center

and this message in the cluster: Parking Brake Limited!

Sometimes, the button itself buzzes as if it is trying to do something. My understanding is that BMW changed this part for the 2014's, if you look at the following website, it is a different part number for 2014's on up.

I hope this issue can get mopped up quickly as I really love my 3 sevens and two of them, less than a month old at the point of this post, have this issue. I will respond when I have a solution or more data. If anyone else has this issue, please chime in so that we can have some collaborative data on this otherwise unknown / unsolved issue.

Found on the web, the parts diagram for the LCI 7:
http://www.etk.cc/EN/search/selectGr...21/61319318731

This is Part #3 on the Photograph posted.

Thanks!

Knock on wood, seriously, this problem seems to have cured itself. Maybe it was a break-in issue. Who knows, hope it doesn't show up again!

The problem just went away, I can use the parking brake normally, it's very strange. Crosses fingers that the problem doesn't resurface. Went away on both cars... Knock on wood

Problem came back today in my 2014 750LI. Im so bummed. I still haven't heard form BMW on the part yet, so I have to park it again. Pissed.

Update from BMW says that part can't even be ordered until 9/23 with delivery in 7 to 10 business days. So I haven't driven this car since 9/3 because they asked me not to until the part came in. That means it's been parked for over a month, only a few days after purchasing it, in waiting for this part!

Im worried that the issue will pop up on my 2014 750i again..... It's all because they changed this part. Im bummed, seriously crossing fingers it doesn't pop up on my 750i.
And...I shouldn't have to cross fingers for a $100,000 plus vehicle - but it's mechanical. Hopefully they can get it sorted soon.

I sure do, but not real happy having purchased 3 of these babies, back to back, and one of them isn't drivable... I think BMW will make good of it though. BMW Corporate Customer Service is really good.

Im disappointed -both my 2014's have the parking brake limited problem and it hasn't gone away. BMW still doesn't have the part and it's been a month and a half. Im sure I am not the only one with this problem as both of my 2014's have the problem, that's not a coincidence. Damn!

Parking brake on My 2014 X3

Hi,

I got my 2014 x3 yesterday (10/12/14). Soon as I got home with it and park it in the driveway, which slants slightly, I noticed a chiming noise on the dashboard, and was getting an error message about the parking brake malfunctioning.
I will be contacting my CA in the morning, it is very bad when problems start coming up three hours of having a brand new car.
Don't want nothing standing in the way of me enjoying my car.

I am so glad that I am not the only person with this issue!! Both of my 2014's do this intermittently - The LI 2014 of mine does it more often than not and my dealer told me not to drive it. I hope a fix pops up. Let me know what happens with yours. Do not let them keep your new car on the lot for 30+ days. My part has been on order since August 15th and I brought my car home the moment I found out it wouldn't be a quick fix. This part is backordered and for me it's been since the beginning of September that they ordered it. Nothing has turned up!

This is unacceptable . I cant imagine they are making you wait this long after you have bought their top of the line product.Did you call BMW NA.Two monhts and no fix[especially when they know the culprit]for a 100k car is just wrong.I hope it gets resolved very soon.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!
Yes, I called BMW NA and they are easy to work with. They promised that I would be reimbursed somehow for downtime, I don't mind because I have the two other 7's but I would be pissed if I only had the one car and couldn't use the most basic feature, the parking brake! You should let BMW NA know about this. The more people that chime in and report the issue, the sooner it will be resolved, though I can't imagine these cars have left the factory with this super common defect.

I am taking in my car for servicing tomorrow, so I will see what they say. My error message says that the parking brake is malfunctioning and that I should contact service.

Hi OSXCODE,

I took my car in for service today, and just like you, I was told that they will order the part and call me when it come in.
I was told to use the car, but not to apply the parking brake, and that the car would be safe in park.
I guess it will be a waiting game, but if it does not affect anything, I will just sit it out. I don't drive much, just for recreation.

I agree, as long as you do not use the parking brake it shouldn't matter much. They did advise me not to drive the car until the part and repair is settled. I am really looking forward to a speedy conclusion to this problem as my house in Santa Barbara has a large inclined driveway and I do use the parking brake on purpose.

BMW NA called me a few days ago about the issue, I called back and left a voice message at that persons extension and haven't heard anything since. No call from dealer. Not fixed yet.

So my part came in on last monday and my 2014 750LI was scheduled for service on Friday. My car spent the weekend at BMW. Phone call this morning from my service advisor came around 11am and they ordered the wrong part (shown above). The correct part, the parking brake actuator (so they call it) - is also on BACKORDER. This could easily be a 3-4 month delay in remedy since the first day of ownership. Not happy.
