Cheers Redbaron1973

Have you got adelivery date for it yet.

I drive a 5series Touring which can be fun in some parking bays and reading up on the 7 it's about a foot longer than my Touring.

Not long to wait then.

Still not sure what to do I was very happy just to get another F11 but the deals on the new 7 are silly.

Looking forward to see some pics and and your opinion on it when it arrives.

Know what you mean Redbaron1973.

I love the interior/exterior and the new tech is out of this world but the car will be parked in the street so just unsure about the size.

As I don't do the mileage for diesel and my budget won't stretch to a 750 I'm left with the 740L.

To be honest never thought it would be something I would have to decide as always thought a 7 would be out of my budget but like I said the deals are so good I can get a new 7 for less than a F11.

buy a short?

the deals on 730D xDrive are good.

as long as you do a decent 50 mile drive once a month the low milage is no issue and resale is massively better.

If you don't have a driveway or have generous road parking outside your house I don't recommend the G12. When you park it as supermarkets, the entire rear overhang stick out. You have to park in places furthest away to minimize the risk of someone accidentally hitting it.

Surround view is a saving grace and is an absolute must because without it you won't have the confidence to park the car or manoeuvre it in tight areas.

It's a big spacious car designed for spacious living, so forget about it if you frequent villages and country roads on weekends.

Are parking spots / stalls shorter in the UK vs. the US on average?

Yupp. A 3-series fill a typical space bumper to bumper with roughly 10 inches of room on either side of the doors. If you have a big car you are at risk of getting dings on your doors.

Worth adding is that the majority of people in the UK, even those living in million pound homes don't have a driveway or assigned parking, and have to settle for parallel parking on the street. Street parking is often a free for all with often less than adequate room between cars, making it very advantageous to have a hatchback that can slot into tight spaces.

If you live on a very busy street and have a huge car, you could occasionally be forced to park several doors numbers or a street away from your house.

The reality is that cars have become larger over the decades while ancient and medieval streets of Europe have not grow in size for obvious reasons.

With all that said, the peace of mind of owning of a long wheelbase car depends on the parking you have:
  • At your house.
  • At your work.
  • Places you enjoy driving e.g shops, restaurants, friend's house etc.

A 5 series is 2.0 Diesel car given free to employees in the UK.

There is no desire or prestige for such a car!

Thanks for all the replies and info.

To be honest I had almost decided against a 7 anyway due the the size of it and it being parked in the street , can sometimes struggle to get the 5 touring parked never mind something over a foot longer.

Once again thanks for all the advice and info.

Out here in the states we only have long wheelbase available now, so it's my first one. Even in LA which has fairly spacious parking spots compared to most cities I'm having a hard time fitting it into parking spots without it sticking out. At my condo it's parked next to an expedition and I'd swear it looks a little bit longer than that which is absolutely insane! Sounds like you should go with the standard wheel-base for sure. It'll handle a little better too.

Yeah, 5 series are just snoozeville to me. I think if I had to stick with a lower price point I'd go with a 4 series so it'd at least look stylish.
