New to a 7

Just paid a deposit on my 3rd BMW, a 10 month old 750i M Sport, working my way up from a 2005 130i to 2009 520d (company car) to 2014 535d M Sport Touring.

I was going to order a 740Ld with a fair few options including Executive Drive Pro, HUD, HK, blinds etc etc. I’d tried my usual dealers 730d xdrive which made me decide to go for EDP but wanted to try it make sure. so tried another local dealers car. That may have been a mistake (fuel bill and range wise as I do 25-30k miles a year!), but I loved it. The colour and spec is great but it was the engine I couldn’t resist.

It’s 10 months old, but has only done 1,300 miles which is about 2 weeks mileage for me.

Should be pretty rare as it’s got £6,600 worth of Pure Metal Silver Paint plus the following options

20” Bicolour Alloy Wheels
Individual Piano Black trim
Head up Display
Parking Package (surround view, park assist, remote control parking)
Electric Glass Sunroof
Sun Protection Glass
Rear Seat Entertainment
Massage Seats Rear
TV Function Front & Rear
BMW Touch Command
Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System
BMW Laserlights
Executive Drive Pro
M Sport Braking System
M Sport Exhaust System

Saturday can’t come soon enough!

Wow pure metal silver. That's an amazing colour and at the price it is, your right it'll be as rare as hens teeth.

25 - 30k miles is a lot. I used to do 30k miles a year in another life. You'll be sat in a lovely place with an amazing stereo to keep you company though

Interested in your opinion on EDP and if you drove a car without it?

I drove a 730d xdrive without EDP and it was super comfortable, but even in sport it rolled a lot more than I liked and am used to, leaving me feeling a bit disappointed. EDP transforms the car in my opinion and there are no downsides other than price. If anything, the ride is even better as it still works well over the bumps but the body moves around less which makes it more comfortable and it goes round corners much better. The steering had a nicer feel as well, but I don’t know whether that’s suspension, engine, or xdrive related.

I see you have the laser lights. Any comments? We don't have them yet in the US but maybe by my next car . . .

I had the full Adaptive LEDs with selective high beam on my old car, which I thought were great and I wouldn’t go back to Xenons or standard LEDs. I only had the opportunity to try the laserlights on Saturday night for a fairly short period, but initial impressions are they work faster than the old ones and when the road is clear and the laserlight main beam kicks in....the range is exceptional.

It’s almost making me look forward to the dark evenings.....almost!

Welcome to the 7 series Martin2C, you'll find it hard to move to any other BMW now after being spoiled in the 7... ^

Lovely car, great spec, thanks for posting the pictures, stunning colour.

Actually, I miss the dark nights/dark mornings as the 7 really comes into its own then with the ambient lighting and the lights...You'll see what I mean come the Autumn...

Curious if there are any special considerations one has to take into account with the colour or can you wash/treat it just like any other colour for a 7?

Please do keep posting about your experiences with the 7 and any observations you have about it compared to your previous cars as it's always useful to hear what others think / feel / see and every day is a school day so we all learn something from sharing the knowledge / info.

Safe travels, hope to see you around sometime, the new 7's are pretty rare still to see outside of London but once in a while...we land sharks do cross paths!
