As already pointed out by others, 'the rest of the world' is an improper measure regarding these brands because in one country, one brand will be seen as more 'premium' than in another country.

Example 1: BMW is more of a 'commoner' brand in most of Europe than it is in the U.S.
Example 2: Buick is a more premium brand in China than it is in the U.S.

To coagulate the OP's query into an 'overall' measure would require reams upon reams of survey data that this forum cannot possibly replicate to even approach statistical significance.

If you look at global sales, BMW had been on top since 2005 ahead of MB. This year specially, MB has taken over BMW in the global sales segment. There is still a quarter left but I doubt BMW would take over.

Audi is just glorified Volkswagens, no different than Lexus, Infiniti, Lincoln, etc.

MB and BMW are luxury brands through and through.

I think MB is more "I want a luxury car, but don't care about cars."
I think BMW is more "I want a luxury car, and I like driving cars."

So as a car enthusiast, my order would be BMW, MB, Audi.
For the masses, I think MB would jump ahead.

I owned an Audi A4 and really liked it until the head gasket failed and pooched the turbo....very expensive fix, but the car was great until that point. Currently own a Z4MC for weekends and I love the thing, and my daily is a MB GLK 250 diesel, so far so good. And for what its worth I had a 911 for a weekend thrasher before the Z4, all great cars. The germans know how to build them, many similar traits and I don't think I'd say one is better than the other....just my two cents though.

I'm the opposite. Drove two Audis before switching to BMW. I'm not a fan of the exterior styling. I'm not fan of the A4/S4 engines nor their transmissions. The quattro system weighs the cars down, and the BMW I6 is absolutely legendary. I'm also a fan of the BMW interior, but that's just another subjective opinion.

But the RS6 C7 wagon is probably one of my favorite wagons next to the RS4.

Best in what? There's has to be a criteria. You just can't rank the 3.

If you're considering brand valuation, growth and strategy, it's Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

As an F80 owner I recently had a C63 coupe for a day, (non-S)

Apart from the M3 being better looking overall, the merc was better in every way. Much to my shock!!

Sound, handling, ride quality, power, the way it put its power down, the way it soaked up British B roads, the interior.

Ok the command system was a bit crap compared to idrive.

For the last 10 years it was BMW. But after the first 9 months this year, it looks like MB will dethrone the champ.

Eargasmic sounding Audi R8 with V10 Plus eats anything BMW can offer. Supercar wannabe i8 is a joke compared to it.

Mercedes has some of the best sounding cars like SL65 Black Series, SLR McLaren, Stirling Moss, AMG GT R, GTs, CLK GTR, AMG SL65.

I love BMW, but it is funny when the fanboys think BMW is the only one makes cars which drive the best and are fastest. Just LOL.

I'd like to modify just a bit:

If you're into driving, then it's Cadillac...

If you're into status, then it's BMW...

If you're into status, then it's Mercedes...

If you're into status, it's Audi...
