There is a reason they leaked the tech first. Because the styling is an epic f*cking snooze fest.

Ignore him. He has a habit of calling members of a BMW forum that own several BMW's, Merc fanboys.

I love the new iDrive.

However:

- Drivers assistance seems weak compared with the Mercedes system which can actually steer the car. The BMW system is more lane departure prevention which is not new and unfortunately let's the car drift very close to the line rather than actively steering it in the center of the lane.

- Weight savings are also small. @scott26 said 200kilos. This article is saying 136 kilos. I think Scott has been bullshitting us for a while with hype. 136 kilo weight reduction seems incremental. I was expecting CFRP to change the game.

Will stay tuned though. Not ruling out buying one but at this point I can't say I won't get a Benz instead.

The weight of the body HAS been reduced by over 200kg, but as another articles has stated some is offset but the addition of new technologies...like 4 wheel steering. Regardless the new 740 will weigh 1715kg, which is similar to the current 535, and is over 250lbs lighter than an A8 or S class with a similar engine which is impressive. Also it's important to note a lot of the weight has been taken from the top of the vehicle which will lower the center of gravity significantly.
The previous model had 4wheel steering too. It was called IAS.

Well done BMW. The technology in this car is simply amazing. I really love everything that it can do. Damn it can park itself. So cool!

How about adding some cooler tech like clap your hands twice to start the car and twice again to stop it? Clap 3 times to put it in gear, 4 times to put it in reverse and so on... Like those house lights...

What really amazes me by watching these videos, is how little body roll the new 7er has! The CFRP body (Life)structure must really help reduce body lean and weight high up where you don't want it!

Another thing is listen to the car on the track... the test car's tires aren't making a lot of noise... that tells me this new 7er will really be a "driver's" car!

All the new tech is really nice too. But I bet there is more we will learn about real soon.

Touchscreen? Really?? I hope they still have the idrive controller. I will never be touching the screen. Hate fingerprints on the screen. You would constantly have to clean it.

Jason, thank you very much for the information, the photos and videos!

It's great progress that has this car, the gesture control is wonderful!
Weight reduction was also a crucial issue for BMW and I can see the look of the car chassis was improved.

New indicator lights on the dashboard and steering wheel again everything looks very modern and ahead of its time, this car really fascinates me.

BMW did a great job, so this car for me is the best BMW of all there is, has it all, luxury and sporty elegance... The future is in the 7 Series. Amazing!

A lot of useless gimmicks.I mean who would want to park their 100k car with a remote control. The only use I see for it is in very narrow parking garages where you squeeze urself to get out after parking. But even then, I would rather squeeze myself out than control my Luxury car like a RC car.The only useful feature that might come handy IMO is the gesture control for the calls. Then again what about the false positives. The Chassis seems lighter and the car has minimal body roll in those videos, I am not sure if its the ARS or the lighter chassis making that possible.

But if the car looks anywhere like the spy pics, many BMW owners will have to go through the dilemma again, Should I buy a Drivers car[that looks like a Pig] which calls itself a Luxury car or should we buy a Luxury car which drives like a Pig.

Why couldn't they design it better.I bet they are keeping the BMW Vision Future Luxury alive and bring it out as the 9 series. Now that is a looker.

This is not an achievement in engineering that anyone is running around the room giving high 5s about. 300 pounds on that pig. Come on; grandpa needs a lighter 7 series than that.
Well said. 300 pounds in this vehicle is nothing. Also beyond the self parking feature (not sure I would like that or how many times one would use it to be honest) the hand gesture and the other stuff is useless IMHO. Moreover the car looks like the chubby ugly sister of the current 5 series. Sad...

Well, not much to be too excited about with the new 7.

People will buy it because the S-Class is so over-sold the BMW will actually be more exclusive because a) it's new and b) not everyone is driving one.

Marketing advice for BMW:

BMW should stick to marketing its biggest strength - driving dynamics - and let the tech and luxury just be the little extras that help solidify the buying decision. Biggest reason you should buy a 7 over an S is because the 7 should be a better driving car.

Cabin noise

Watched the last video and heard a lot of cabin noise. Hopefully BMW can fix this to beat the s classes with almost 0 cabin noise.

Still using plastic around the shifter/iDrive controller? Come on, at this price point and in this segment, there should be no surface or part that should be plastic. Unless it's the dash trim or a compartment door, every surface or panel should be in leather.

The layout of the interior of the S-Class isn't amazing, it's just the fact that 90% of the interior is wrapped in leather that gives the appearance that there was no compromise. It's these small details that annoy me about BMW.
