Leaving the BMW on while Filling Gas

This guy asked me today why my car was running while I was fueling-up. I told him there was no reason to turn it off, it's just another unnecessary start-stop. Doesn't seem to hurt anything and I've done it for years on all of my BMW's.

Am I the only one that leaves the car running to add gas? I can't imagine, those of us living in colder climates have probably done this for years too...

It's more of a lazy factor for me in California though, plus I can see that the tank is full whilst I fill it.

In the U.S, it's illegal to leave your car running while you're not in the driver seat. With our fancy BMW keys, we could argue (lol). FI cars are no longer a risk of igniting while pumping up, but it's the same risk as talking on your cell phone while doing so.

You'll get hippies yelling at you for wasting fuel and poluting our air, but nothing else. Your check light may come on when the fuel cap isn't tighten (I believe FI needs negative pressure in the tank for the return fuel lines to work).

I shut my car off, it's just common sense and I don't like hippies yelling at me. Hippies are crazy.

I've done this for 15 years or so, it's never been a problem. I usually just lock the doors before I begin filling and then 2 minutes later im done and off I go. I guess this is kind of a stupid post lol. I was just wondering if I was the only person who did this :P sounds like it :P
