New comfort access key security being tested?

Hello, has anyone else heard/read about a new comfort access key update that will be available from dealers? (to help overcome the recent hacking of boosting the key signal when inside the house and stealing the car without needing the physical key)

Apparently BMW is running a programme to make updated keys available that have motion sensors built in and only send signals when in motion (and up to 2 minutes afterwards). The key is apparently available for the display key, now available for Gxx (5, 7 and some others in X series) with key updates for the Fxx series cars being worked on still.

The info must come from BMW internal mails with a subject along the lines of 'Replacement of key fobs / display keys through a new technology with motion detection sensor' (my translation, not official).

Customers will not be informed directly by BMW about this, rather one has to ask I have read and especially as the dealer / BMW has decided (needed to) subsidise the replacement key due to costs...

For a set of new replacement keys (1 display key and the 2 standard ones) with the motion detection sensors built in the cost that a user pays is apparently around 700 Euro, at least in Germany! (BMW apparently will cover around 70% of the cost of the new display key and the two other keys and there is also a bit of work to reprogram the new keys to the car and something else that has to be adjusted in the car (no details) and so the 700 Euro is the cost remaining for the customer to pay, not the total cost (I've read that the display key is around 700 Euro, and the others are 300 Euro each so 1300 Euro for keys and then the work on the car which is around another grand...so over 2300 Euro total for the work!)

This seems to have been confirmed by two users asking at German dealers (different ones) apart from the original poster mentioning it, not seen it mentioned elsewhere...anyone going to the dealer soon and up for getting a blank look of 'what are you on about?'

Would be good to have a bit more security without the need for pouches and such but £600 is a bit rich for that convenience!

Discuss!

Safe travels everyone.
