Best option available, it really does work.

It helps you to keep focussed on the road while you get all the information you need to navigate, your speed etc.

In my opinion together with active cruise control one of the two must have´s on a 7-series.

Totally agree with thijs-v-d-H!

Or let me put this in other words:

I wouldn't buy another car without it!

It's quite annoying if you drive another car that doesn't have HUD and you have to start looking at the dashboard all the time again

Heat from the head up display?

Has anyone felt that the dash where the head up display is located is quite warm? My husband's car has the head up display and when I drive it, it always feels very warm. I haven't noticed the increased temp in the passenger seat. Wasn't sure if it was me...or the car?

Works but not a must.. I even forget it's there.... Good when there is a warning signal... And w/o navi don't see it as a really good option. I'd get the auto shades those are cool

I love the HUD--especially when using the navigation. I would definitely get it on any vehicle, if available.

Love the humor! Not insulted at all...by the way, I drove our M6 yesterday and I still swear the dash emits heat. It's a snug fit in the M6 and the dash and interior are black, so that could the culprit.

Do you sit on the dash while you drive???

I can't detect any heat coming from the HUD. Mind you if I wanted to even feel if any heat was coming from the HUD, I would have to lean forward just to be able to put my hand above the spot where the HUD is ...

On the other hand, I assume your weather is quite a bit warmer than where I am and the dashboard being black with the sun shinning on it will definitely create some heat! So maybe that's what you are feeling?!?

is the M6 windshield steeper rake than the 7? there is a lot of room between the windshield and the HUD on the 7

C'mon now...if my name was socal DAD you wouldn't be giving me such a hard time now would you? No, I don't sit on the dash. And as long as we are on along those lines...not old enough for "hot flashes" either. (Beat you to it!) My new 7 comes in 2 weeks with HUD with oyster interior...I will let you know if I can tell there is a difference. And yes...there is a HUGE difference in the distance between the windshield on the 6 and 7. The 6 is very close in comparison. The black is probably a factor too. I'm just comparing the heat emited from the 6to my current 7 (that does not have HUD)

With all said...HUD is great. Driving a manual 6 in southern cal traffic keeps you busy... making HUD very helpful.

LOL, I wasn't even thinking of that

I still had the conversation of the seats in the someone's 7 getting hot when the cooling is turned on in my head...

And yes, I would have asked the same question if your name was socal_DAD

The HUD unit (the part that generates the image) is actually a lot lower and further inside the dashboard behind the instrument cluster. The display unit itself isn't really that big. What you see from the outside (when you look through the windshield) is the optical part (lenses and mirrors). So I doubt that the HUD is the source of any heat you feel.

And congrats on your new 750. Post some pictures when you get your ride

Socalmom,
where exactly are you feeling the heat? on my car the HUD area of the dash is recessed and I was just holding my hand over the area. are you touching the area around the HUD display or are you reaching into the recessed area. or is the M6 HUD not recessed?

The driver's seat seems to be warmer than the passenger seat and the only difference I could come up with is the HUD. I am not putting my hand in the area of the HUD as much as it is warm when I drive the car...and I am ALWAYS cold.

It's not a problem for me since I only drive the 6 every once in a while.

oh, driving always gets your blood pumping, need to try the air conditioned seats. I have always driven when I am in my car. I don't think the HUD could put off that much heat could your seat heaters be stuck on?

okay, today after driving around a bit, i put my hand in the recess of the HUD. it does generate some heat, but not that I could detect it from the drivers seat.
