Considering the W222 was launched in 2013, don't you think its kinda early to see the facelift doing the testing already

This is completely normal. Just because you see a test mule doesn't mean the car is close to being released. It could be another 1-2 years before the refresh is introduced which would fall right in the middle of its life cycle assuming a 6-7 year life cycle for the W222.

Could be a new sw option or system they are testing. The cover's for the dashboard area are intriguing. Atominous driving, laser headlights, etc...

Do notice the headlamps guys there is a new design element (3 vertical lines of DRL's)

So this definitely is no engine testing or systems / features under test, its definitely a facelift undergoing test.

I also believe the facelift won't be launched before 2017 (as a 2018 model).

Lets wait & watch.

Just saw that AutoMotor und Sport has picked up on these fotos. They are saying its an LCI update bc of BMW's new 7er! lol

New features:

New restyled LED hedlights which allow the driver to drive with the highbeams on all the time, dimming the places where other cars or people are. Also a nightvision system to detect annimals and pedestrians.

New larger and frameless LCD dashboard & infotainment displays.

New seats and interior switchgear. Also the ugly two spoke steering wheel will no longer be offered.

A new automatic transmision will also be offered.
