Garage List
M760i

Looks like the most powerful BMW is an M-lite! 3.7 to 60 in a two tonne luxobarge; yikes!

I'm sure the M obsessed lunatics will ignore it but the "pretend M" division sure is knocking out some great cars. Fast but comfortable, powerful but practical.

And with the revised output, the 0-60 is now 3.5sec claimed (0-62 - 3.7sec). Still many months before the car goes on sale so this may drop even more, but official tests will probably have the car in the 2.9-3.2sec range with 1/4 mile in the low 11's with trap speeds above 125...

Trap speed above 125? I will have to see it to believe it.

We'll see soon. The S8+ is almost there and relies on overboost to achieve traps over 121. The B7 is torque limited by the transmission rating at lower revs but still has more over all torque in every gear and similar curb weight. The ///M760i will be interesting. It has a heafty weight penalty, but has more torque from a lower rpm and isn't limited by the transmission in any gear.

But 125 is about what CTS-V traps, which is lighter and got more power. Z06 between 126-127. M5 CP traps around 122-123. It's just hard for me to believe the 760 will trap 125+, in fact I will bet it won't.

Could AWD have a positive effect in this case?

It does. The way the AWD system operates also has an effect. Just using the known published figures used to roughly calculate it comes out to an unrealistic figure (10.98@131.4mph - vehicle mass, mass distribution, power distribution, and gearing).

Adding in the frontal area, coefficient of drag, resistance from the tires, and drivetrain loss, brings the calculation down to 3.31 0-60, 3.55 0-62mph, 11.58@125.2mph, top speed drag limited of 212.4mph. It's limited electronically for top speed (the M760i and B7 rely on ground effect) as they are very loose at high speed and rely on DSC to keep things under control. The B7 of will trap approx the same time but with a lower velocity. The ability to reduce drivetrain loss at speed is one of their tricks.

The M760i is just a precursor to the car within BMW circles (longtime BMW aficionados) have been clamoring for...
the vaunted BMW M7.

M7 (and other non-series production M Cars do exist). One of my business partners in Japan has several but they are not indicative of future production vehicles. The G11/12 will not feature a "full" M version.
