Perhaps their language/design hasn't kept paced with BMW.
I will agree with this. As an E38 owner I love the look of the E38 Alpina, but not a huge fan of the look of the chin spoiler and graphics on the G11 or any of the modern BMW's for that matter. The classic look does not translate as well on the newer cars.

I really thought about the Alpina B7 but seeing the 760 in Msport changes my mind, I think it looks way better, plus with a tune that thing will be a monster, a very smooth one at that.

I will compare my 740i sport vs the 750il of the day, the performance was basically the same (mostly because of the 740i sports more aggressive diff) but they went about it so differently. The 750 just pulled at any speed it was effortless, the 740 could keep up no problem but it felt more rushed and taxed.

It all depends on what you like. I prefer this 760 over the current Alpina just because of the exterior looks.

I like that BMW is keeping the V12 around, but let me be clear:

I am baffled by how BMW can't milk 800+ HP out of a V12. Why don't we have a car in the six minute club yet on Nordschleife? Why don't we have a car in the two second club for 0-60 or the nine second club for 1/4 mile?

I believe in BMW. I grew up in them. Get it together, guys.

It may well be 800hp- could just be the "the gentleman's agreement on HP" biting.

Also the price will be higher than the Alpina's..
They choosed to put it next to S65... as super fast autobahn's pigs....
So the real M Performance model is Alpina B7...
This version is based off the N74B66 that's been around for a while with stated outputs of 563bhp in the Ghost Series I/II and Dawn, 593bhp in the Ghost Series I/II V-Specification, and 624bhp in the Wraith. I doubt this version will see use in any of the standard Rolls models.

The turbos in the current version are tiny and deliver a max boost of just under 10psi in very limited load conditions and engine speeds. Most of the time they're really not doing much, where as the new Alpina B7 is basically an S63B44T2 and needs 22psi to achieve roughly the same output.

This wasn't the ///M Performance model I saw and discussed with relevant individuals 1.5 - 2 years ago, and isn't even the revised model we discussed last spring prior to launch.

If I had to wager a bet, the standard 750 exceeded expectations, forced Alpina's hand, some engine derivatives were moved around, BMW had M GmbH massage the already planned switch to the 6.6L version to reduce manufacturing expenses, emissions requirements, and Alpina is either no longer considering bringing back the B12, or this engine will serve as the base for a monster; the likes we've never seen before in a production Saloon Car.

There are definitely some significant modifications on this version of the N74 (I haven't seen the official designation but given there is a N74B66T2 sound file in the ASD Control Module that's a safe bet).

Compression Ratio, details of the internal modifications, and forced induction system are still "TBD".

I just hope they don't hold back on the exhaust note. A N74 opened up is probably one of the last great authentic and glorious sounds we'll hear...

My guess it starts somewhere around $140K, for two reasons.

First, they are planning on releasing a 9 series, which will have to be more expensive. Second, they are getting too close to the price point of more exotic luxury cars.

Yeah good point. The F01 760Li started at 14X,XXX I believe and this M760Li seems to be a little more "special". 155-170.

Intake Air Requirements and Thermal Management. The N74 family is basically just an N73 motor with two very small Garret Single Scroll Turbos mounted on the lower outside (where they usually are) and the Air-Water intercoolers are on top of the motor. It isn't a Hot-V setup like the N/S63 with forward mounted intercoolers. If enough air could be fed to the combustion chamber and heat soak controlled, twin-scroll turbos added, and doubling the boost to 1.5bar Peak, 900hp isn't unrealistic for the motor. But it won't happen in a 7 Series. 1.2bar; 1.5bar overboost; constant would be a bit over 1000hp (similar to how VAG is getting so much power from the 4.0TFSI).

BMW UK has a configurator for M760Li xDrive..............but it seems incomplete? (e.g. options like Bowers and Wilkins audio are not available)

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/new-vehicles/7.html

Anyways, at least we have a preview for it

The UK configuration is a bit quirky. B&W is standard on M760i (as is most of the equipment that is optional on other 7er). Most markets will have the no-charge options of V12 Excellence in lieu of M Performance trim, and 5 place seating instead of 4. Smaller options are market specific. Overall, the cost options will be very few globally.

The only three options I have chosen for my car in the UK is Sun Protection Glass, Ventilated seats and Laser headlights.

Replacing your Ghost also? I parted with my S2 LWB V Spec recently and have the option to take the first US allocation for the M760i. Couldn't get past the excessively large wing Mirrors on the RR. Driving in pedestrian intensive city environments was a rather interesting exercise.

I changed my RR Ghost a little while ago. I have a 730d XDrive which I like but I can't wait to have a more exciting engine!

The N74B66TU is really impressive and sounds GLORIOUS in sport mode. The Wraith S2 and Ghost Black Badge models are getting a 680hp version of it soon and there is a rumor that the M760 may have a upgrade option made available as well. Time will tell. Congrats and hope the wait isn't long.

Speaking of options, I wonder if BMW will add further options to the 760.

I presume BMW is keeping track of its closest competitor (e.g. the MB S65 AMG) so I wonder if BMW is planning for:
-Carbon Ceramic Brakes
-Black Full Merino Leather (similar to what F10 M5 has)
