Hello all. My lease is almost done and I have a tough decision coming up. I though the 7 series forum would have the users that know the series the best and could tell me its specific advantages and features AND disadvantages over a the new 5 series. Please and thank you. Here are the details (remembering that in Canada leases are way more expensive than in USA):
2018 750Li $1,600/month very well equipped. Comes with winters too so don't need to buy those as I would on the M550i. White with black nappa. 45 MONTH lease. 2018 M550i $1,140/month with nearly every single option and package EXCEPT night vision (rear dvd even). 668m 20" wheels. Carbon black with mocha brown Nappa. 39 MONTH lease. 1. Being in Canada the full digital dashboard on both cars) 2. Snows 4 months per year here 3. Wife and 3 kids (8, 7 and 3) 4. Wife's car is new Honda Pilot that we love and obviously use for the long family trips. 5. My back pain is TERRIBLE. 6. Both cars are dealer demo so can't change the options. My heart wants the M550i for the speed and sound and frankly looks. My mind tells me the insane rear leg room and air suspension and prestige of a 7 would be nice. But are those the ONLY differences and are they really worth 40% more payment per month? My pocket book says no. Any comments are welcome on advantages or disadvantages either way. Please and thank you. |

Both smart cars the seven rides superbly and is far more prestigious a machine, tough choice, sadly we will not get the m550i in the UK, if we did the 5 would pip it for me, but if i were a few years older it would be the 7 (ps im in my 40s)

Have you tried the 740? Plenty of power twin turbo.

Are the multicontour seats the same in both? I like the air ride suspension in the 750. I have driven a F10 550 briefly . The 750 was certainly the better riding and more comfortable ride |

We have a '16 750ix and I have no experience with the new 5, but I imagine it depends on what you want from the car. Similarities will be more common than differences as they are very closely related.
The 5 will be a bit sportier. The 7 will have a bit more luxury car feel due to the suspension and the girth. The 5 will feel like a mid size in the back seat. The 7 is simply cavernous back there for your passengers. Straight line in the 750ix is superb for such a large car. I imagine the perceived acceleration will not be altogether different in the 5, even though its lighter weight allows it to sprint quicker on the clock. The massaging seats in the 7 are amazing. If you can't get comfortable in them it is because you want more padding, not due to shape or adjustability. The ride is sublime and all day cruising imparts no fatigue or soreness. However you state the Pilot will be your high mileage trip vehicle anyway. I'm not sure if those same seats are available in the new 5 or not. If so, that could be a neutral factor. In my opinion the 7 handles like a luxury car, not a sport sedan. There is just too much body roll when cornering, even in Sport mode of the active suspension for my taste. That is not everyone's opinion and for some is a positive, just not to me. It's a trade off for the luxury and comfort it seems. My previous 5 series' have provided a much better cornering experience. YMMV. So to me it would boil down to size, sportiness and price. If you don't need the room and don't want the luxury feel over a bit sportier one, it would be a no brainer for me, save the money and get the 5. If the opposite is true, you have to decide if it's worth the extra $$.

I was coming off an F01 lease and rolled into an m550i. I did test drive the g11 740i and the "e" version both . Very nice car but unless you think you will be using the backseat a lot , I would go w the 550i
the m550i acceleration is insane and there will be very few cars on the road (like 911 and mclarens) that you cannot pass or maneuver around as you please . |

It really depends what features mean the most to you. I personally think the 750 handles better than the 5. I've owned 3 5's and i always end up going back to the 7 because it drives better, it's roomier and I think the M Sport 7 looks just as good!
