I am on the IL side of St Louis for a funeral right now and the drivers here are significantly bigger pricks here than my town. Just yesterday I was cut off 3 times, 1 person ran a stop sign and jumped in front of me like nothing happend, and 2 people jumped back and forth between lanes in fromt of me. All in a 4 hour span.

I don’t think it’s a fad or regional...we just moved to San Antonio from Germany and have witnessed many people running red lights and stop signs. I’ve seen at least 12 in the past week, one guy was stopped at the front of the line at a stop light, after several minutes he just went, light was still red. Unbelievable
I have front and rear (2-channel) dash cams in my X5, I have a feeling I’ll need them here.

We have a few punks around here that like to purposely swerve over the yellow line into your lane on back roads. Then they swerve back in at the last second. They try to get you to swerve and think its funny. I recognize the cars every time, so I never swerve, and have a dash cam running.

On my Jeep XJ I have a 3" lift and a solid steel winch bumper that is about level with the driver's head on most of these cars. Pretty stupid of them IMO.

Can anyone recommend a good dash cam (front and rear)?

I'll take a look. Which front camera do you recommend? Slickdeals have a bunch on sale from time to time but not idea how good they are.

Personally I'd treat this as an insurance policy and go with something on the lower end of the price scale.

I have the wedge dash cams and love the small size, the way they blend in and have been very happy with their performance (front & rear) in several of our cars. I think they are also generally list as A118 dash cams (I think there are also A119s that may be new and improved).

Initially I figured I would upgrade down the road, but have seen absolutely no reason to do so after 2+ years.

This.

I have a pretty cheap one from Amazon (China) that still has decent video quality during the day and at night. I bought it based on the reviews and it has been working very well for over 2 years now. Not even sure what brand it is, I have the same one in both vehicles.

Don't get something too expensive that will attract thieves.

I had one of the cheap Chinese crap cameras in my Camaro and it worked fine for the year I had it. Still works just haven't bothered to hookup on truck. Might go install in the beater today though, I've been inspired.

If you go with a cheap one I recommend you look on a site like vipon as you can usually find one under $20. That's where I got mine.

Im running mini 0305

Cheap, does its job and saved my ass a few times. Most recently a woman ran a stop sign and said I ran into her lane when turning. I let her run with that story to her insurance while all I had to do was submit the footage. Instant deductible recovery plus some nice pocket change.

My X5M is running the LGD521

There were instances where the Mini froze a few times, highly annoying. But most of the time it has been fine

Just ordered a Rexing V1, which appears to be a relabeled A119s (or not). I went fairly low-end ($99) because I didn't want GPS or dual channel and want to see if it is even worth having a dash cam. With my luck, now that I'll have a dash cam I'll never see another incident. If it turns out I need something better, I'll throw this one in Wifey's low-use Civic.

He never even glanced at me or seem to realize he just missed us. Some punk ass ~19y.o. kid in a red Hyundai.

Tonight as we were heading home and about to turn left off a main street into a side street, another jackass came out from the side street onto the main street without slowing a bit. Just blew through the stop sign like it wasn't there. Again, this was right in front of us, although not nearly as close as yesterday.

I'm not up on the latest stupid-teen-tricks (for instance, I never heard of Logan Paul until yesterday, but apparently he's some major star with teens). Is there some new fad going around where teens just run stop signs for fun? Or did I just happen to hit the Idiot lottery and have seen more than my fair share the past two days? Maybe there's a new hole in the bozone layer?
Logan Paul. Never heard of this asshole till you and a few others mentioned him. Ok now wtf did I just watch? What the hell is wrong with this idiot and why do I feel the urge to punch him in the face?

I felt the urge to punch him in the face as soon as I saw his face, didn't even need to read what he did.

For $100, it's a one time insurance charge if you look at it that way. Having it is better than not having it. It's not what you can control, it's what you can't.

If it helps after an incident, sure. But keep in mind that dashcams are double-edged swords. They can cut both ways and be used against you if you are even a little bit at fault. Even a minor thing can be spun to point at you. That's one reason I don't want GPS logging. You could do nothing to cause an accident, but if the GPS log shows you were even a couple of MPH over the limit, a savvy lawyer for the other side will attempt to pin some blame on you. And if you are at fault and it's known you have a dashcam, you can bet the other side will want to see the video and data.
