Taking over BMW lease, does the factory warranty and maintenance plan transfer?

I am looking to take over an M4 lease soon.

Do I get to keep the maint + warranty if I take over a lease from somebody else?

I know they don't honor it if u bought it from somebody but what about lease?

I believe the warranty is good for the stated period, regardless of owner. I think this is a legal requirement.

The maintenance is a trickier question to answer and may depend on, among other things, the time the car was originally sold.

I would check with your local dealer but I think in this case it should transfer. It behooves them to ensure that all maintenance is done properly on a lease and the Maint plan does that well. Also, they said it stays with the original OWNER. Since in a lease you do not own the car but rather are renting it from BMW I think that limit does not apply.

Yea that's what I'm saying... I've had a lease it retitles the car however but it doesn't count as another owner I think and that was a sublease not even a full lease takeover.

I thought I read somewhere that the maintenance plan no longer transfers

True, for cars sold on or after July 1st 2014, aside from some possible exceptions.

I believe the maintenance is not transferable on MY 2015 cars forward.

Nope. It is, in fact, cars sold on or after July 1st 2014, as I said.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1010257

So a MY2015 car sold before that cutoff will have transferable maintenance. Most MY2015 BMWs were not yet on sale before that date anyway, but some were, including the M3 and M4 coupe.

Also, there may be exceptions for lease takeover or similar situations because of the way "owner" is defined.

It transfers over if the new lease is for a "family" member...

The text of the announcement says MY 2015:

Quote:
Previously, no matter who owned the car, if it was still under its initial warranty, BMW would pay for routine maintenance and parts. But in a change just recently announced, “For model year 2015 or later vehicles sold or leased by an authorized BMW center on or after July 1, 2014, BMW Maintenance Program coverage is provided for the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP) vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico).”
When I bought my i8 a year ago, I was asked to sign an acknowledgment. It said 2015 MY on it, too, so I pushed it back across the table and didn't have to sign it.

Yes, it says MY2015 vehicles sold on or after July 1st, 2014. So, if both conditions apply the maintenance plan will not transfer.

There are folks with MY2015 M3/M4 who do in fact have transferable maintenance plans. We know this because some of the cars sold from before July 1st, 2014 have already changed ownership with the maintenance plan remaining in tact for the second owner.

I wonder why it doesn't transfer. It's not like BMW loses money in the transfer.

I figured they would want to keep the maintenance plan in tact to protect the car from no servicing.

It doesn't transfer the only option is the extended maintenance plan (cheap) which is no problem to me anyways.

Also it's only 2 years.
