Regenerative Braking

What is the point of Regenerative Braking on non-ActiveHybrid 7 Series models?

How is the technology better than that of a standard alternator setup?

Because the alternator constantly robs the engine of power and your brakes just waste energy... So BMW took it to the next level and are reclaiming some of the wasted energy and put it back into the battery which helps your overall efficiency...
