Closing the trunk

I'm not sure whether or not the automatic trunk closer is standard in the US, but it's not in the UK.

Unfortunately I don't have it and I find it a nightmare to close the trunk as there is no where that you can grip to close it without leaving fingerprints all over the paintwork. Anyone else experience this?

In Canada it's part of the Executive Package. As far as I know, the automatic tailgate/trunk closing feature is not part of the base model. I ordered mine with every available option.

There should be a handle on the inside of the trunk to close it, no?

Yeah there is, but you need to slam it to counteract the springs. It's not an easy operation. I reckon it was designed with the autoclose function as standard and someone cheaped out somewhere along the line.

You would think it would be standard. I usually just try to use my sleeve to close the trunk.
My dad's 911 is the worst, since the "trunk" is in the front. Not very fun to have fingerprints on the front of your car.

Since we are on this topic - Does anyone know of a way to close the trunk from the inside? w/o pressing the button on the trunk?
Yes, Im getting that lazy - getting out to press the button is a pain.
It just feels like there is a trick to making it close.
anyone?

I believe there is a button to your lower left next to your knee that operates the trunk. It should definitely open the trunk, not sure if it will close it too.

on the E65/66 there is a button to open the trunk but it does not close it(Mercedes has this feature - had it on my old CLS. btw which i miss)

and I'm pretty sure its the same way on the F01 - it will open by the button but it will not close it.
I really dont know though, didn't have chance to play with that particular button (lol)

hmmm ... I will test again , but Im pretty sure I tried this and it did not work.
Let me know if it does for others since I have a "special" beemer.
On another note.. I noticed on my BMW.. (maybe I should start on new thread on this) When i leave the Windows down, and set the alarm - If I put my hands inside the car - the alarm goes off - as if there is a motion sensor or something - is this normal???? OR is my beemer special???

That's certainly normal for European spec cars which have a volumetric sensor.

That is the 'normal' and correct operation of your alarm system. It's also NOT a good idea if you leave pets in the car and activate the alarm without first disabling the motion sensor!

It should be covered in your owner's manual under arming and disarming your alarm system. It describes on how to go about disabling the cabin motion detector before you arm the alarm system.

Pull it most of the way closed using the inner handle then press on the number plate to close it the rest of the way.

Cool - thanks guys!
No pets, so no worries - but it makes sense to be aware!

Yeah, I've found that to be about the only decent method.
