xDrive for the 760

Will xDrive be available in 2011 for the 760? I've heard conflicting reports. Currently, the MY2010 configurator on bmwusa.com still doesn't have xDrive or the 760 available.

Does anyone know if xDrive is available on the 760 in Europe?

At the moment, no xDrive for the European 760.

I don't know what the future plans are.

Will it fit with the V12 ?

Stewart.

Thanks for that info, even though it's kind of disheartening. It seems like it'd make sense to offer a vehicle like the 760li with AWD to help put all that power down to the pavement..

+1

I would love to see a 760Li xDrive version. I would definitely go and get that one. I prefer AWD over RWD cars.

I suspect BMW thinks people would prefer Integral Active Steering over xDrive on the 760.

I think the 760 is made in too limited of quantities to warrant the need for an AWD version.

I like (more like LOVE) the integral active steering. It still surprises me sometimes when I do really tight turns how the rear end sort of swings around the corner. It's nice though!
I just wish they could integrate both technologies into the 760Li. Would be nice to have IAS and xDrive

Well that's one issue and some other points to consider are:

- The new 760 comes with a brand new 8 gear transmission. Its supposed to be the same size (if memory serves me right) but does it work with the existing xDrive system or would they have to build a new one to work with the new gear box?

- Can the current xDrive system handle the power the 6.0l TTV12 puts out?

- Space... The current 4.4l TTV8 already takes up almost the entire space under the hood, I can just imagine how crammed the TTV12 must be under the hood of the 760!!!

And I am sure there are a lot of other factors to consider... But still my wish list would would be to have a 760Li xDrive (preferably with IAS)!

My understanding is it will never be available. Benz and BMW never make their top end models 4wd.
The 750xi will be the most powerful you can get.

It doesn't mean that they won't eventually offer one... Until the 2010 model year, there has never been a 7 series xDrive before either! So again, anything is possible and I sure hope that one day they will offer the 760 in a xDrive version!

It was inevitable. With the success of its innovative xDrive all-wheel drive technology in the 3 and 5 Series models, it was only a matter of time before BMW offered it on the 7 Series. That time has arrived.

BMW raised the ante for performance, luxury and style with the all-new 2010 750i and long-wheelbase 750Li models. Now, for customers who want the extra traction of all-wheel drive, BMW offers the xDrive system on both models. That in itself would be big news. However, since xDrive is such a performance-oriented technology, it bears a closer look.

The 2010 BMW 750i and 750Li models offer prodigious power from a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. This aluminum masterpiece pushes you back in the soft leather seat with a massive 450 lb/ft of torque. Now, BMW is pairing that powerhouse with a drivetrain that helps give the 7 an even tighter grip on the road – wet or dry. Don’t just call it all-wheel drive. Here’s why: (goes on to explain xDrive)
Sounds like that's a no-go for the time being, at least in 2010. But why do they talk about how performance-oriented it is if they won't put it on the V12? It's weird - they're doing that with the 760 like they do with the 550.
