I think American car companies have recently produced some pretty interesting cars that are a huge step above that past couple of decades (i.e. Corvette, Hellcat, GT350, ATS-V). However, I find it hard to be proud of a company that has undergone so many recalls and generates the majority of its revenues from somewhat uninspiring, disposable-looking cars. What exactly should we be proud of?

I would like to see the Big 3 start using the technology, designs, etc they have in their sports cars in their everyday cars. I think this is how BMW/MB/Audi attract a lot of their customer (M-Sport, Sport package, S-line).

Doesn't BMW make most of its money selling 328s and X3s? Just like Lexus would never have been able to build the LF-A were it not for stellar Camry and Corolla sales.

Also, before anyone goes all apeshit about "parts" in various cars from various manufacturers being sourced from all over the world, that's not what I'm talking about. When speaking of Chrysler, you are speaking of a SUBSIDIARY co. of Fiat, unlike GM and Ford.
Not throwing shit in here, but the Charger/Challenger are based off the 300, which is a 4-gen old Mercedes S-class chassis.

No, what I meant was, you mention Cadillac around here (especially the ATS) and the Fanboys come out with piss and vinegar. I have a Hummer H3T Alpha, can't get any more American than that. We're good.

I knew it, the Range Rover and Jaguar are rebadged Tatas, now.

All joking aside, I think the jag/range rover are still british but it becomes difficult to classify recent Rolls Royce since they're heavily based on the 7 series, with the power train, electrical system, electronics, chassis, suspension etc being German.

The other problem German auto makers have their designs don't look original anymore, they're copied to death by Kia, Hyundai, Honda etc.

You get you an ATS, Challenger, Mustang GT etc. You know it's not going to have the same design language as a BMW,Kia,Honda...or be confused for a Kia on the road.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

But seriously, how often do people confuse a civic or rio for an A5 or 3er? Granted, I have noticed on occasion that Japanese / Korean autos incorporate design cues (i.e. headlights, grilles) from the Germans.

And yes, the Challenger/Mustang crowd are very distinct but these cars are only a small part of the companies' offering. I am looking forward to the ATS-V big time, though. I really think Caddy can make some serious moves in the the next few years if they play their cards right.

I'm not saying it's the German auto makers but sadly too many Kias resemble Audi's, BMW's that cheapens their design, it makes their designs less interesting, unoriginal etc.

A friend of mine saw a white Kia with a black roof, He thought it was my car. Lol I remember back in the day when you saw ans E39 5 series it looked pretty original, you didn't confuse it for a Honda Accord, now even the cool DRL's arent cool anymore.

Kia design studio is located in Germany with a German running it...

They stopped implementing poor Chrisler designs under this brand name. Now you are buying a redressed Fiat, designed almost entirely in Italy. Not a big big fan of Fiat reliability, but that's a notch up for Chrisler, sad to say.

Ford (except for the ill-designed in-car system and wheel buttons, what's that??) and GM are both bringing solid offerings these days. Good, more competition to keep ever inflating BMW prices in check.
