What are my wheel options

Hi all,

I currently have 20" 648M alloys on my 7 Series, but I live in the sticks and I'm constantly getting burst tyres and buckled wheels from potholes. I've got to the point now where I just want to reduce my alloy size down to 18" and get extra depth on the tyre to hopefully reduce this issue.

I'm looking around online, but I'm a bit lost, so hoping someone can point me in the direction of what my options are for alternative smaller wheels which will fit my car? Will I need to get the speedo recalibrated, or can I get the exact same size tyre dimension through a thicker tyre? Any help would be really appreciated or a guide to website which can help me?

Thanks.
Rob

Im also running on that 648M rim,Iv put 255/40r20 in front, and 295/35r20 in rear, non runflat tyres, just the same as Alphina b7. this size will make your car have 5mm thicker on tyres, which may save your rims from those potholes,at the same time, it can also correct the factory speed meter, which has a huge difference with the actual speed.
Wide rim with narrow tyre (10j rim with 275mm tyre) can provide some sharp and sporty corner response, but also send impact directly from tyre to the rim, especially runflat tyre.Only when the width of the tire and the wheels is appropriate, tire wall can absorb the impact normally. Although this will lose some curve feelings, but no one will use 7 Series as sports cars, right?

What’s wrong with the three 18” BMW wheels that were offered for the G11/G12 7 series? You can run those 18” wheels if you don’t have the M-sport brake option (S2NHA)

If you mount them with the recommended 18” tire sizes in your owners manual…you won’t need to “calibrate” your speedometer (probably not doable anyways) because all wheel/tire combos offered by BMW for the G11/G12 have the same rolling diameter/circumference. As the tire size increases…the sidewall decreases…so that is how the rolling diameter/circumferfence remains the same.

245/50/18 tires are what is recommended for the 18” wheels:

There’s also the three 19” wheels that were offered for the G11/G12. These came in staggered sets but again, the tire size recommended by BMW would not change your speedometer. You could also run them as a square set if you mounted front wheel/tire combos on all 4 corners.
