Check Coolant level

This morning when I started the car, it saids check coolant level. I was suprised that the reservoir was pretty much empty. Why would that happen on my 2011 7 series so quickly. I called roadside assistant, they will not come cause they want me to take the car to the dealer. I am afraid to drive it in case overheat. At the mean time, can I add the coolant myself? Does anyone know what is the right type for my 2011 740i ?

i had low coolant warning at 5,000miles, just buy a bmw coolant from your dealer and top it off yourself. adding coolant is written on the owners manual.

This is what I don't understand, I thought it was filled up when we first got the car especially yours is only 5000 miles and it is already showing low coolant level ?
