OMG. How do you get the battery out?

I don't even know where to begin. Car is telling me to charge it. Manual says to charge it with the underhood terminals. No shops are willing to do that for fear of frying a computer. They all want it removed from the car. Help me please.

you can recharge the battery with the charging points in the engine bay, its much easier than removing 3-4bolts on the battery. read the idrive manual.

Thats what I keep telling them. They won't do it. Already tried 3 AutoZones and 4 service stations. Dealer won't see me until the end of next week. Tried my solar trickle charger, but it did next to nothing.

The car is designed to be charged via the under hood connectors.
Dealers connect there every time the car goes on their diagnostics system.

Show them your owners manual (or download one from BMWUSA.com)
Page 265 of the 2012 7 Series manual states it is only safe to recharge the battery from the under hood terminals.

If you remove the battery you will have to reset soime things like the power windows/sunroof ect ect.

If you really want to disconnect the battery:
Be careful and observe normal battery safety procedures.
You first disconnect the black ground cable, then open a little "door" on the red plastic part to find the positive terminal bold and then disconnect that.
Then you have to get the red plastic part off the battery. Its usually clipped onto the sides of the battery.
Then find the screw holding the bottom of the battery onto the car via a clip and remove it. Now move the red tray out teh way and remove the battery ( usually not easy due to weight and little room)

This video shows the procedure on a 3 Series that is not very different to that on the 7 Series

Just remember if you do replace the battery the dealer has to recode the car to tell it it has a new battery or you will get electrical errors.

For the future get a Ctek charger available many places like Amazon.com.
It will look after your battery when you connect it and is even sold by BMW at their dealers (at a big price margin increase)

Thank you. AutoZones chargers aren't portable, so I can understand their reasoning. But the service stations, I don't understand.

I have zero intention of replacing the battery. I'm only gonna have this car for like 2-3 more weeks. My new one is awaiting transport in Bremerhaven. Good thing. This one seems to be falling apart.
