So... my friend joined the army

"America has had a war for every generation since 1675. 332 years of war and counting. Now, if you've ever talked to me, you'd know that im against this war on terror as much as im against the war on drugs. But i ll be honest with you xanga nerds... times is getting rough for eddie yi. i need some fast cash real fast. so i went down to the army recruiting center. scored a 94 out of 99 on my asvabs, qualified for pretty much every job they have to offer. they really want me in. they'll probably lie to me and try to send me to iraq, but i dont care. for a 15,000 dollar enlistment bonus plus salary they can send me to antartica and i ll club however many baby seals they want me to."....

made my day... after cleaning my roommate's friends' mess.

The Army is under strenght right now they are taking pretty much everybody with bonus.............. Most recruiters don't lie, they just dont tell everything. Think and choose wisely about the MOS before signing that contract . If you dont like kicking doors or chasing bad guys dont go Infantry or combat arms just get something technical.
Depending on your physical fitness and your Basic Training start doing some form of Physical Training.
As far as Iraq more than likely yes, or maybe Afgahnistan.

A lot of recruiters lie, lol but for the most part they just don't know what they're talking about. I know when I went with my friend to the recruiting station, my recruiter was a Food Inspector and tried telling me how my experience would be like as infantry. lol...

You're right some recruiters do......The recruiter you're dealing is a POG does'nt know anything abount the real Army probably never shot a weapon after training and let alone combat.
Im still in the active Army with 11 years experience and 5 combat tours, just recently came from Iraq if you have questions just ask and Ill try to square you away

I thought about joining the airforce since i have private pilot experience. Only prob is I have flat feet...

Only thing - if I joined the airforce and couldn't fly jets...i'd be mad.

The possibility to make 15 grand just for joining is lucrative. But for me at the end of the day it is not worth it. If you could go for only a year. Hell I'd do that. But they have you by the neck for atleast 4-5 years.

But hopefully he comes back safe and can use that money for a house or just any new toys he wants.

hahaha... my friends not stupid... haha he just doesnt get the opportunities he wants... a year ago or so he was selling sell phones in korea for soem bussiness & doing somewhat well at it while also teaching english.

i mean it pays the bills but theres no growth for him...

The lower the score, the closer they put you to the "front-line".

They always sacrafice the "disposable" ones first.

hmmm, not true. And thats why the Army lets you pick the job you want. Granted the selectioin might not be the best if you don't do well on the test but you still have a choice.

I dunno, Scores that High I'd check out and see what the Air Force is offering with those Scores.

Same pay, but a Much Much better standard of living, treatment, and technical opportunities.

NOT baggin on the Army, wouldn't do that. But from experience, Air Force simply has better bases, better food, better looking women FTW...
