2022 G12 LCI - bigger screen retrofit from the G30 LCI
I own a beautiful 2022 LCI G12 and recently I've upgraded my partner's car to a 2023 LCI G30. The first thing I noticed was the massive screen she has in her car over mine and it got me thinking if it would be possible to retrofit one of those screens on my 7 series, considering both cars are running iDrive 7. I would also be interested if someone managed to retrofit the "dynamic ambient lighting" feature (ambient lighting flashing red on whichever door is open), as I can't find any info about this either.

Indeed, it does look like it. I would've much preferred the OEM version if it would've worked through coding. I'll connect my bimmercode to my partner's car and see if I can find anything related to dynamic ambient lighting and if there are such configurations on my 7 series.

With custom BDC software .... maybe, if hardware layer supports it. There definitely isn't any factory subroutines in S15 or S18 platforms to do it. Last edited by Raimo5; 12-22-2023 at 06:42 AM.. |

Hi, new member here but I have a 2020 LCI M760 also - would be interested to know how you get in with the bigger screen and the dynamic light.
I’m also in the UK so let me know how you get on with parts. |

Interested…
I was very surprised when the LCI was revealed with the same older screen size… Until today, am hopping someone can share more info about retrofitting a larger screen.. |

I can see why they decided to keep the 10" display. It's size is completely adequate and it looks a lot sleeker in that vehicle. I have seen few photos of 12" displays in G11/12 and it looks rather hideous and glaringly unintegrated with its higher and boxy proportions.
We really need to ask ourselves what are we trying the achieve with this modification. |

in regards to the dynamic light, no luck yet. I have found a setting in the BDC 3 module which I've activated, but I still can't see the checkbox under the ambient light settings. need to dive in deeper. Quote:

for me it's more of a challenge, I like tinkering stuff. I would've preffered the 12inch screen as standard, the satnav looks much better on it and the colours are brighter. I will keep the 10inch screen as a spare for when I will sell the car or get bored of the 12 inch one. |

If you want to do it better, take the 3D printed adapter, get it primed and then painted satin textured black to match the BMW, the cloth he used is ugly, and for all the work he did, maybe he didn't have access to paint options, or his 3D modeling is not snug, so he needed the cloth to fill more gaps..
Pretty cool retro although I don't use my screen for a lot, so not sure bigger is better for me. |

RealOEM wont show it, no G30 LCI in their database, no idea why, but ETK does about 900 bucks from what I can see, plus 3D printing, paint, so figure 1k total.. |

I just realized this needs 3D printing so I don't see I'll ever do that in the future... I thought it was truly plug and play....

The 3d printed part is just to mask the small gap between the screen and the dashboard. If you use your imagination there's lots of ways to cover that gap. Personally, I will order some leatherette material and stick it to the new screen, making the gap virtually unnoticeable. |
