2012 750xi M sport

Hi,

i currently drive a 2007 G35 Sport and am ready for something larger, but still quick and somewhat sporty. I had been looking at a new 535i but my father does not fit well into the front passenger seat or the rear.

So, I am currently drooling over an immaculate black on black 2012 750xi M sport with 28k miles. Clean Carfax. Local BMW dealer is asking 56 grand.

Is there much to watch out for with this model, in terms of recalls, problem areas, etc? It is 'BMW Certified' but it is not yet clear what exactly this entails.

It looks like a large, powerful, mature, and practical car that I would love. It seems so many people disparage the 7 series, though the S550 (at least the W221) is an old man car...

Decisions....decisions....

I came from a G35 coupe. I still have it as my beater car. Don't expect great gas mileage from the 750.

A few things that come to mind:

1. Seems like the buttons rub after a lot of use. That should be first you replace under warranty.
2. Oil consumption. I've heard that most of the BMW motors consume oil. Just hope not to get one that is drinking oil. Look into the service records.
3. the infamous "Drivetrain Malfunction....". Again, look into the service records.
4. 2012 I think they still have the N63 engine, 400hp. 2013 they went to the N63N and it got a nice bump to 445hp. I've heard that it makes a difference if you care. I have BMS stage 1, which helps things.
5. No service manual can be found for the F01/F02 (at least no Bentley manual). So good luck trying to do you own service in the future.
6. As you may know, BMW's require coding if you try to upgrade to newer parts. This a pain, never had to do anything like this for my G.
7. The 750i is a great car, but as many will say. Don't wait, get an extended warranty if you expect to keep the car. There are so many small gadgets that are bound to break.
