Picking 2016 Volvo XC90 over X5 + Nurburgring!

*Edited 10Sep15 - added Nurburgring pictures

I just returned from an awesome summer vacation in Sweden/Denmark/Germany where I also got the opportunity to take delivery of the all new 2016 Volvo XC90. Just thought I'd share some pictures of the car first with some more scenic photos to come later.

It took a lot of deliberation to choose the XC90 over the BMW X5 but at the end of the day the choice was clear. Below are the reasons that I chose the XC90 over the X5:

- Euro Delivery aka Overseas Delivery (OSD) in Volvo terminology
- Lower price point to get everything I needed for a growing family w/1 infant + 1 toddler
- All new + Swedish design
- Oh yea and Euro Delivery haha as a 2x BMW Euro Delivery (2011 & 2012) customer I can't fathom buy a vehicle any other way.

Enjoy the pictures!

I really lke these but have a thing about large SUV, just get a loaded minivan if you need that kinda space. Plus the asking price is incredibly high, but like i said, i like 'em.

Looks great. I've owned 3 X5s and made the decision to go with the XC90 as well. It looks like our builds are very similar. The new XC90 is just a fantastic SUV and is on or above par with every aspect of the X5.

Thanks! The lease on my X5 expires in early October. I expect to take delivery some time around then. This weekend, i went and did another extensive test drive with a new X5 and the XC90. The X5 has just lost so much of what used to make it great with the tight steering, handling, and suspension. I have always paid the premium for BMW's knowing that I would get that dynamic, but the new X5 is numb. So in the end, I'd be paying a 15k premium for a less practical, lower spec'd car that has subpar driving dynamics. As much as I love BMWs I couldn't justify it.

There are some things I don't love about the XC90, like the touch screen for EVERYTHING. I do like buttons for HVAC. I prefer iDrive.

I agree that an LCD isn't ideal for all the controls. Win some lose some

Those headlights are different than the headlights I've seen on the XC90s here so far.

The car is very nice indeed. Inside and out, better than X5.

Same thing I thought. Nice looking SUV and Volvo is definitely stepping their game up!

Really dig the looks of the "Hammer LED" on this model:

^plugin hybrid.

So how does an overseas delivery work?

You buy the car in the US and pick ip up in Sweden (Göteburg I presume)?
And then? Drive it to a port and ship it to the US? (insurance? tax? customs?)

Sweden in the summer: Not a bad place. A lap of the Ring: not a bad experience. A XC90: not a bad SUV. Well done.

That and how you can spend 50-60k on a car and not get Xenons or LEDs standard..
