Isn't dealer markup bringing them north of six figures? Maybe that's just the R but I don't think they're going for MSRP. Amazing cars though- strangely my wife feels the same way about mustangs and there's just no way I could get it past her spending as much or more than my M4 on a mustang...

As for the OP, what's the point of "having a back seat" if it's not functional at all? I found myself in the same boat a few years ago, and it just so happens that a 3-series coupe (obviously now a 4-series...) has enough space in the rear to comfortably seat 2 adults. I hear talk of a TTS, you seriously might want to just stick to a 2-seater. You'll have enough space for a laptop bag, and that's about it. No car seats are going to fit back there, much less a human being out of toddler years. I would suggest a Camaro but unless they've changed with the latest remodel the back seats are almost just as useless. Fantastic car though, especially considering the price.

Glad the M4 is a definite test drive; between the DCT and the ridiculous torque of the S55, I can't comprehend anyone being disappointed by the responsiveness. The M2 is absolutely amazing, but they appear to be suffering from markup problems as well and I saw availability may be a problem for Canada... but if you can get your hands on one, seriously consider it. I haven't checked rear seat room but it's got to be more than a TT... and probably more than a 911 (which is beyond the 80k price range anyway unless you go used).

One other thing to note though- if a manual is absolutely off the list, I strongly suggest you find something with a dual clutch gearbox. The one in the M4 and M2 is fantastic (I think the M2 is technically different but they feel the same). Porsche's PDK is great too but I actually prefer the BMW DCT. Compared to any slushbox though it's just light years ahead. As someone who has driven manuals all my life, I honestly can't complain about the driving experience of my DCT M4- it is the ultimate compromise for those who just can't do manual for any of a thousand reasons (and it's much faster too...).

(That said my next car will certainly have a manual. I got the DCT because I was absolutely sick of DC traffic with a manual, but I've realized that I can just steal my wife's Macan when I have a 9am or 3pm meeting in the district. But I am happy with the DCT; it's an absolute joy on a racetrack I just get more of a kick out of day-to-day rowing through the gears).

Regardless of the car you choose. Please make sure you choose a DCT transmission. Having recently switched from a manual to an automatic transmission. I can tell you from personal experience. IT SUCKS.

I personally would keep the cayman and get a beater for when you need to haul crap around.

Manual and NA are going the way of the dinosaurs. Why don't you try out auto and turbo? Just get a 718 S, performs much better than 981 and sounds pretty good to me (much better than M3 to my ears; just as good as 991.2).

Your quest is becoming increasingly difficult with each successive car change.
Won't be long before the used market will be the only choice.

i have tried lots of turbos including those that supposedly have no lag and they dont respond or sound as good as an NA

I am not adverse to larger displacement v8 turbos like amg gt but then the manual becomes an issue....

tried f type s manual....good but not quite as good as my 981...

i want to upgrade and a 991s seems like the only upgrade option out there

Cant go wrong with the 991GTS they are fantastic cars. Will be different going from mid engine to rear engine handling.
